This is a odd question, but something I wanted to ask. Lets say you wanted to play a battle royal game. Would you play it if it was in 1st person or 3rd person? i would like to get opinions on which you think is nicer, and would rather have in a game!
There are pros and cons for each, but in the end, I would choose 1st person.
When you try to look up into the sky, the camera will be occluded by the group, so it will zoom in a little to not go through it. Zooming limits FOV with is quite necessary in FPS games and is a little uncomfortable for the player. Speaking of discomfort, the angle would be a little strange too…
Another perk with 1st person is that the avatar’s body doesn’t take up the screen at all. In 3rd person, they’re usually off to the side, but that area of the screen is taken up whereas in 1st person, you can see more of the surroundings.
However, 3rd person does allow players to have some scope (haha) of what’s going on behind them. Not all the way, but just right behind their backs. If a player tried to sneak up on them, they’ll eventually show up in the camera, allowing the player to see them.
But I still prefer 1st person and I feel more comfortable with it.
Whether the majority want it or not, I think you should think about the minority as well. They make up a good chunk of your audience, so you better not make them unsatisfied! That’s why you should consider adding an option to switch between the two.
I’d prefer to play in First-Person, but that’s my personal preference.
I like giving players the option to choose between first and third person, similar to how Skyrim does. This way, players can select whatever they’re comfortable with. Though an RPG game differs from a Shooting game.
Try to envision the game you’re trying to make, and choose what you deem fit.
1st person seems the best and it feels better as well.
1st person: It immerses you in the game a bit and matches feel a little more intense since you can’t zoom out and look at other parts of the map like an upper view. 1st person is also becoming a bit more popular as a point of view.
3rd person: 3rd person isn’t really AS intense as 1st person but it still works.
