2D animated face in a custom 3D rig

i’ve made a custom 3d rig, it has a 2D face, and i wanted it to be animated

  1. What is the issue? Include screenshots / videos if possible!

I don’t know how to go with this, i’m really trying to evade having to upload every frame as an image, and the head of the character have a very specific shape, so an actual bone rig for the face would break the shape of the face when moving-

  1. What solutions have you tried so far? Did you look for solutions on the Developer Hub?

I don’t know really where to start with this, and yes, i have looked for solutions, but didn’t find any.

What i was thinking was to have the face as a separate mesh and have it rigged, and then do something similar to the shrink wrap modifier from blender inside roblox studio so it copies the shape of the head, but i don’t really know if this would be possible.

This is also my first post here and english isn’t my native language so there might be errors in my grammar

M have you though of doing something like the roblox dynamic heads? The original roblox face was 2d but they made them all 3d, with minimal deformations to the head itself.

You can set these all yourself with the FACS but you would need to make it a dynamic head

Other option include making a 2d face rig. I think I explained my procees in my attempt to make one here.

The problem with dynamic heads is that, as far as I know, they work the same as rigging the face with the rest of the model, but with more controls available in Roblox Studio’s default animator. The 2D face rig isn’t exactly what I’m looking for. That said, the 2D face rig gave me an idea on how to make it so I can still animate it in Blender and have it project onto the character’s face.
