A Guide To Competition

Competition Rules

  • Be respectful! There’s nothing worse than coming to a competition and being exposed to drama and unprecedented behaviour. Show your peers some compassion and give them some respect.
  • Follow the rules of the platform! This means no profanity, no flaming, no spamming, et cetera.
  • Use common sense! If your gut is telling you not to do or say something, then don’t do or say it!

Performing Routines

  • A skater will perform two routines during the course of competition.
  • A short program is a routine which skaters must incorporate elements which have been preselected and suitable for their level. A comprehensive list of requirements for the short program can be found here.
  • A free skate is a routine in which skaters must incorporate elements of their own choosing.
  • The time limit for a routine is two minutes, and you may not redo once you have started your first movement.

Judging Criteria

  • Each element contributes towards either a skater’s technical score, or artistic score.
  • Each element has a base value. A comprehensive list of moves and their base values can be found here.
  • If an element is completed, the base value is added to a skater’s technical or artistic score, depending on the element.
  • If an element isn’t completed, the base value is subtracted from a skater’s technical or artistic score, depending on the element.
  • A skater’s artistic score and technical score will be averaged in order to curate a total score.
