A* pathfinding help

After messing around with Idiomic’s pathfinder test from 2019.

I removed the walls and added the y axis so it could pathfind in a 3D space.
It’s pretty fast, if only it didn’t run a marathon just to get to the goal.

I don’t know how to make this better as for I am brand new to pathfinding.

Could you explain a little more about your reference picture here? What are the blue squares, explored areas? If so, A* shouldn’t be exploring in that pattern and there is likely an issue with your cost function.
