Introduction
Hello! My name is Logan, but please call me Icy as thats what im know as throughout the roblox community. Recently I took a four mouth break from roblox dealing with my depression and family issues. There’s been a lot of things going on throughout my life and it sorta has to do with roblox. Its very stupid and all but for that 2 year span before my break I’ve been trying to work as a small roblox developer trying to make some quick robux. Little did I know I made some huge mistakes at the start and end of developing games. Ive been scammed countless times that I could not count… And I think its time I give my advice of how to avoid these mistakes and excel through your commissions as a developer.
Chapter 1: Picking your talent
Now as a Ex-Roblox developer, a lot of my friends have know me as there jack of all trades. But as for someone who is starting or is getting a lot of critique from there work, I suggest not to do multiple talents at once. Pick one talent that you are the best at and stick to it. Don’t switch it because you’ve been scammed or people are criticizing you for how bad or unprofessional your work is. Eventually you’ll rind someone who thinks your work is good enough for a decent pay.
Avoid Simulator Only commissions
Now this seems kind of odd, But there are tons of different developers who stick with the basic simulator type development. You can definitely use it as a piece of your portfolio. But I would not recommend promoting only simulator type work. Be more open about what you are capable of doing. If you not then theres always room for improvements and practice.
Choose commissions that pay at your skill level.
One big mistake when I started developing, is taking big multi thousand robux commissions that you are overconfidenced in. Beginners should also look for commissions that have a decently small pay rate. It will take time to make the amount of robux you want to, But its always good to start off small. The chances of you doing a big commission and then failing to do it is a very bad feeling from what it looks like…
Avoid New Players hiring at big pays
The chances that these type of players are scamming by alts is very high. A very big chunk of the roblox development community is under 18, which makes it even more likely they are lying about the robux they say they will pay.
Chapter 2: Dangers of scams
A very big mistake a roblox developer will do is get scammed. It’s a very bad feeling and it hurts your stomach when you realize you’ve been scammed. A lot of small developers always give there work first to the person commissioning and then never get payed. This is a rookie mistake made by a lot of new developers. Always force the commissioner to pay portions of the upfront before your start working on the product.
Be less lenient towards Rodevs and Hiddendevs commissions
Since the collaboration section of roblox shut down. A lot of smaller and younger developers have migrated towards a popular developer server known as rodevs or hiddendevs, since the talent hub USED To require you to verify your roblox account so you would be promoted towards the search bar. Abviously that changed… A lot of rodevs commissioners are very unprofessional and can sometimes do the opposite of scamming by framing you for scamming because something is unjustified. This has happened twice to me and both times I have lost the investigation. The rodevs moderators are very unprofessional and the likelihood of this happening is way more than you would expect…
Never do downfront payments
Down front payments are a almost guaranteed way of getting scammed. As I say never do downfronts, I would also suggest not to do an upfront. The commissioner will get suspicious and it could lead to the commission not even starting. Like I said earlier its best to do portions of the promised upfront until the work is complete. If the commissioner steals the work and doesn’t pay you 100%. You always know who did it and it will never feel like you did the work for nothing.
Avoid Percentages
97% of the commissions I did where scammed by a method known as percentages. Percentages are a third type of payment where a commissioner has hired multiple people to work on a project promising a portion of the game earnings. This is a huge risk of getting scammed due to three things. Either the game was never finished, You did the work and the commissioner stopped the project and you wasted your time, The game was successful and the owner took 100% of the game earnings for himself, Or you finished the game and it was a massive failer to the point where the whole team including the owner got little to none robux.
Do no more than one or two commissions at once
Doing multiple commissions is a huge mistake. The chances of you getting stressed are very high and its very easy to get burnout from this too. This can be bad for your reputation as a roblox developer and can actually harm your mental health. Be aware about what commissions you are doing right now before you move into new ones.
Conclusion
all of this info is from my personal advice to helping you get robux and being good at commissions. I did not take these key factors of being successful and therefore I failed. But it’s ok because if you do fail, you will always come back up at one point if you do manage to use that failure as motivation. Don’t let some random developer who has thousands of robux stop you by making fun or criticizing the qork you put time into. It will eventually get better, you cannot quit
