A way to purge or remove DevForum comments, posts etc

As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to remove any older content from your DevForum account - I should have the option to remove or purge all comments, posts and what not past a specific date.

If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my experience using the forum because I will be able to manipulate what data this forum has of my history.

My motivation for making this post was because I was hit with a 22 hour ban before I can delete any further posts, which I personally find this absurd.

Hey @AsynchronousMatrix, what kind of content are you trying to delete and why is this a frequent action? Trying to understand the ask better. Generally speaking for forums, since your posts are a part of a discussion of many people or may be part of the solution to a support request, it can be destructive if any user suddenly decides to remove many of their posts, so this is why there is a threshold on deleting posts.

Hey, thanks for finding the time to answer, also I apologise if the post gave off a negative direction.

In short, I would like to remove the majority of my ā€˜Replies’ ~ I don’t think the reason needs to matter however, I personally feel like I’m maturing a bit more each day and the more I look back at these replies I’ve made, the more I start to regret i’ve made them?

I understand that this is damaging to the Forum, and I didn’t initially think about that, it is a really good point ~ However, I still do think I have the right to remove what Replies I’ve have made w/o being blocked?

Thanks.

It may potentially be useful if there were a new feature designed to date specific replies (date as in, fade out & give the impression it’s a dated comment.)

Though this late into DevForums history I understand there may be insane complications with that implementation, lmk what you think

No, removing your old posts would probably have a worse impact on people searching for solutions in the future than the effect it’s having on you now. Instead, you should ask for an anonymity feature if you’re self-aware of your old posts. I still disagree that it’s necessary to purge/anonymize them. Think of it as visualizing your growth rather than embarrassing replies from a long time ago. We’re all here to learn.

This is a very poor reason to get rid of something unless you were saying something pretty bad in the first place (ie things that were ā€œof their timeā€ to say the least) in which case if it was that bad you’d have been banned off the devforum for them.

Regardless of the content or context, it can (and I’ve found usually does) help a lot of people looking for help on things. Not to mention, if something is old, people will treat it as such (and keep in mind that old information can be outdated, or incorrect due to a lack of information that was found after the post was made)

Personally I feel your reasoning for getting rid of as much as you’re trying to is arguably pretty selfish, and generally not a good idea for anyone involved. You’re far better off just leaving it all be, or if you absolutely must note on some things then adding a small edit at the top/bottom saying it’s outdated would be perfectly fine.

There’s no reason to regret what you have accomplished.

You shouldn’t be being rude to anyone as this seems like a cover up for what your real intent is.

Alright-y, wanted to summerise this post quickly!

In conclusion, this feature was and is not going to be implemented because of how it may effect the DevForum’s history.

That’s an understandable resolve.

A potential solution to this problem would be to implement an ā€˜Anonymity’ feature which would protect the author of said Reply, Post and what not.

I would be happy with this implementation.

My own thoughts on the summery.

I’d like think whatever data I have posted is my own data, but I don’t think that all too much now, I think i’ll stick to the sidelines now when looking at newly-created posts

Thanks all for the discussion!

This wouldn’t work if someone mentions you, unless that’s going to break.
