A year of scripting, everything opensourced for you

Introduction

Hey developers. In the beginning of the year, I started my scripting and development journey on Roblox, and while it has been a blast and I’ve met so many amazing and talented people, certain circumstances have influenced my decision to leave Roblox for good.

However, I want to give something back to the community, because I’ve gotten so much from you all, from tutorials to advice and improvements on designs. So, today, January 1st 2021, I’m going to opensource all of my scripting work that I have been working on for the past year.

What are you giving away?

I have opensourced the following things that I have worked on this year:

  • 1 bodyforces flying script with keybinds

  • 1 massive placement plugin

  • 1 random tool I made for someone’s birthday (I can’t see why anyone would use this, but I suppose it might be good for someone’s learning)

  • 1 cornerstone-based build system which consists of
    – A custom-made UI that has been scripted and scaled, ready for game use
    – The main script that allows for placement of props, which includes placement checks, customization of props, and placing tools
    – 50 hand-built props from Blender and Studio, which work with the system, but you can use on their own

  • 1 simple gun that uses the FastCast module

  • 1 random block game

  • 1 tool-controlled siren

  • 1 half-made obby (I don’t know why you’d want this, but here it is)

  • And 1 scripting place that I used to learn how to script and test things

What these look like

Props for build system

All custom modelled in Studio/Blender. I am not claiming ownership over the textures, they were provided for free.

What’s the catch?

Well since I am leaving Roblox, I do not want any payment, but I’d greatly appreciate it if you could credit me, or just not claim it as your own (please no sharing these elsewhere, just link this post if someone wants access to them). Also no reselling (If I wanted to have someone profit directly off these, I’d have sold them). But other than that, you may use them in your games, take them apart, learn from them, or even add to them, whatever would make the world a better place

Final notes

I want to thank each and every one of you for all you have done for me and the community. I’m glad I could be a part of this, and I’m somewhat sad that I won’t be able to continue what I have started. And an extra thanks to anyone who creates resources for free or tutorials to help others. I appreciate you.

Ok well I’m gonna go enjoy the day, have a great year everyone and wear those masks!

One last thing, can you tell me what you think?

How useful was/will this be to you?
  • Very useful (your game revolves around it)
  • Pretty useful (It helps you out)
  • Somewhat useful (You can learn from it but won’t use it directly)
  • Not too useful (I’ll browse through but won’t use/learn anything)
  • Not useful (I won’t even open it)

Would it be possible to associate an animation with the body force?

Yes it would, you’d just need to load an animation onto a track, and play it when a key is hit.

Seeing creators leave but give such a bounty like this both makes me sad and glad, farewell King, may your treasure feed the community

Sad to see you leave, I think I’ve seen you a couple times around the forum. I will probably be using the gun system, the gun I scripted is less advanced than that. From what I see it looks great. Thanks.

Oh that’s not suppose to be there… it should say

“Put ‘well’ into RS, put ‘hm’ into RS, put the script into SSS, and the localscript into SPS”. Lmk if you are still having trouble.

I tried out that placement system however when trying to place the cornerstone I said I reached maximum parts or whatever, im no scripter so Id be glad if you could tell me a way to fix that as I have no idea where to start, thanks in advance

Thanks, this is really great! You’re a great guy for doing this, what’s the reason for leaving Roblox (if you want to say)?

Yes, I had a directory set up in ReplicatedStorage, should be called “BuildDirectory” or something, it’s a script. You can just change the lines for each prop that sets the limit. It should say which line is the limit of that obj.

Thank you so much, that means a lot

Mostly leaving because Roblox moderation is really bad, and I’ve lost quite a lot of work and payment to faulty moderation recently, and they refuse to help me fix the problem. Another issue is the communities of most games can get quite toxic, which isn’t really the deciding factor, it’s just a minor annoyance. Final reason is that I like to make websites and other things with JS, and I wanna see where that takes me. There isn’t a future for me with Lua or Roblox, so while I may have done another year on here with Lua if it wasn’t for moderation, I would try to shift back over to webdev after that.

Sad to see you go :frowning: Yes, I agree, moderation is a really big problem and the customer service is usually worse.

Well, you are leaving one hell of a legacy for us developers, especially up-and-coming ones. So your short stint at Roblox was not wasted!

You know it would suck if he came back to roblox because then we would have lost everything

What exactly would you lose if I came back? It’s opensource you know, for anyone to be able to use.

Don’t leave ROBLOX your Work its Amazing!
