Back in 2019 i set my VIP server prices to 10 robux because i didnt know vip servers could earn so much.
I have been thinking of changing the VIP server prices on my game for the past 3 years but i cant because i dont want to unsubscribe my currently subscribed players who have been subscribed for all those years.
Services like Netflix notify subscribers in their email if the price is changed without unsubscribing them
If this were to be the same on roblox with VIP servers, it would allow me to change my price without losing my currently subscribers resulting in no risks of losing robux when wanting to increase the price.
This would also allow for developers that still decide to go through with the price increase to set reasonable prices instead of tripling the price for vip servers because they dont want to deal with the risk of losing existing subscribers.
this is a terrible idea… theres a reason when prices are changed, vip servers are canceled. the only reason i could see if they notify via email is if the dev decides to make the vip server either free or cost less.
You could very easily exploit players who are unknowingly subscribed to a vip server out of money, like changing the price of a vip server to one thats extremely high
yes but first of all roblox doesnt require email or phone number or any contact information, so those unfortunate enough wont get informed
and also there may be somebody subscribed to your vip server that has not been online for a while, meaning they are unaware of the price change and will get charged an unwanted amount
I understand why this can be good in theory, but I also think it would be a massive problem. Imagine having a game go from free to bumping to a high amount like 1000 or more out of nowhere. I rarely check on my private server costs under the transactions page. I understand the concern of losing Robux, but I think the current system is better as it protects the consumer.
Yes, it would be nice to be notified if a price has changed and your private server was cancelled. Outside of that, I don’t want to continue being charged for something that is now higher in price. Due to the higher price difference, there is still the risk of people cancelling anyway. I’d understand if lowering it kept the subscriptions going with a notification, but raising it should always cancel renewal no matter what to protect the consumer from scammers.
Entice users to resubscribe with additional private server perks while also bumping up the prices to something reasonable in addition to the added perks. You can additionally notify users who don’t have a private server. The perks don’t have to aid in progress, but they can add a little extra to the game to give users the reason to subscribe to the higher prices
Roblox actually already does this and sends you a message when the price changes and your private server was cancelled as a result. It most certainly isn’t enough notice to warrant allowing the subscription to increase in price without cancelling it, though.
To make it clear on my personal stance, I don’t think this is a good idea. Players actively wanting to use their private servers will re-subscribe if they are okay with the price increase. There may be some friction in the re-subscription flow, which could be reduced; although, even if so, it should still not be made automatic.
I think this would only work under the condition that it’ll only unsubscribe players if the price is increased, not decreased. If the price is decreased then there’s really no good reason at all for them to be automatically unsubscribed because there’s no risk of them getting scammed. They already know what they signed up for by initially purchasing it, if they’re then getting it for cheaper then there’s no issue.
Although I don’t see Roblox doing that anytime soon. There is too much of a risk for them, and the Problem that may result from the risk is too high and it is better to have people kicked off the subscription than to have people paying a high amount unknowingly.
If let’s say they don’t see it coming and they lose their hard earned Robux just from not looking at it for a month.
I’d imagine it would only be possible with vip servers that you already pay for.
In my case the vip servers are too low in price but there are also games that have a too high set vip server price so its an issue on both sides.
A lot of people will not re-subscribe or it will take a long time for them to do so.
Keep in mind that as soon as the vip server price is changed, the regular income from vip servers drop to 0 as if your game was brand new.
This is why being notified outside of the game is superior over ingame in some weird menu.
I assume that this is new (as in that it’s newer and not that it’s completely brand new) as I never got a notification. I guess that the prices of any private servers I own haven’t changed since they started notifying you
Only downside is that you are forced to use your local currency and not Robux as well as coding it yourself instead of relying on Roblox’s built-in servers
This is something that I know a lot of companies leech off people using. They hope you don’t check and force you to spend more. It’s why I think that Roblox cancelling subscriptions when the price increases is a better method of handling it. Prevents scamming people
This is something I am fully aware of and don’t have an issue with as long as it protects the consumer. There will be people to resubscribe as soon as possible if they think a private server in your game is worth it. Having their server cancelled essentially is a notification on whether they want to keep the private server or not. The dip in revenue is better than losing reputation as you can get revenue back easier than the reputation you build. Being forced into price changes is worse than a minor inconvenience of resubscribing to a higher price if you (the consumer) think it is worth it
Just a simple question. As a CONSUMER, would you rather…
Receive a mail that may be somewhat lost, telling you a subscription you’re paying gets increased, but renewal continues automatically, so you may not be aware of that
Receive the same mail, but renewal doesn’t go on automatically : you need to take action to reenable it.
I would prefer the 2d option, despite it requiring more of your time. Even though most companies use the 1st one, for obvious reasons of extra income, you’d need to take refund requests into account because some people did not want this auto renewal after price increase. You can’t just ignore them, there are probably legislations protecting consumers from this, and you would need to process those requests accordingly. I’m pretty sure Europe enforces that (I would need to verify that though). Roblox doesn’t want to bother with all this, which is understandable and quite honestly better.
I am not sure about being able to increase it for existing subscriptions, even with a notification. But more tooling would be appreciated.
Maybe being able to change the price, and then giving developers the option to keep existing subscriptions or cancel them. (With the existing subscriptions staying at the same price)
Or possibly having a more prevalent notification, letting users know their subscription is running out as the price has been increased, giving them a direct option to renew it for the new price. (Currently you just receive a PM with no links or other options)
Overall an interesting topic to talk about, as far as I’m aware private servers haven’t really received much love in past years
Why is this bothering you? People who use your VIP servers will just have to re-subscribe. What’s the point of being subscribed if one isn’t using your VIP servers?
Would like to add, this is how price and demand works. If you make your VIP servers more expensive, people will be more reluctant to keep subscribing.
Instead of this, Roblox users should get an in-app notification saying their private server’s price has changed. Then, disable the recurring payout so they don’t accidently spend robux on servers that cost more after the change. They can re-enable it if they still like the price.
