As a Roblox developer, it is currently impossible to customize the way a general audience would be able to view your profile.
I believe the notion of followers has always been the reason somebody would recognize a user as either more exemplary, credible, or just savvy with rallying certain crowds on Roblox.
However, as somebody who values their privacy more than anything on any social media or game platform, I would like to request that a new drop-down menu be implemented in the user privacy settings section that determines who could see your follower count.
The options available (I have proposed at least would be as follows:
Who can see my followers?
Everyone
Friends
Users I follow
Only Me/Nobody
And
Who can see who I am following?
Everyone
Friends and followers
Friends
Only Me/No One
This request will not at all defeat the primary functionality of the followers mechanic on the website as users can still follow anybody and receive notifications from their idol’s status as normal - it would appear something more like this:
In end, it may seem like it’s quite redundant to implement something that pretty much says “Prevent yourself from getting noticed”, but not all people want to get noticed the same way or maybe they just really, really value their privacy as I do. You can find out a lot about users involved via your followers but sometimes I think it’d be a more placid environment otherwise.
It does make me very anxious as a developer now, but it’s something I believe would also secure safety in younger player’s (Mainly smaller kids) accounts.
