Accessories pasted into a character do not weld to the character

Reproduction Steps

  1. Insert an R15 block rig into workspace from the built-in Rig Builder plugin
  2. Insert an Accessory into workspace
  3. Insert an unanchored Part named “Handle” into the Accessory
  4. Insert an Attachment named “RightGripAttachment” into the Handle
  5. Duplicate the Accessory and drag it into the character model from Explorer
    i. this should correctly weld the Accessory to the right hand
  6. Copy and paste the Accessory into the character model from Explorer
    i. this should incorrectly not weld the Accessory

Repro file
AccessoryPastingRepro.rbxl (144.9 KB)

Expected Behavior
I expect pasting the Accessory into the character to function identically to dragging the Accessory into the character. That is, the Accessory should weld to the correct body part after pasting.

Actual Behavior
The pasted Accessory does not weld to any of the character’s body parts.

Demonstration

Issue Area: Studio
Issue Type: Other
Impact: Moderate
Frequency: Constantly

IIRC this problem also occurs with Hats and Tools (meaning an ages old problem). Pasting instances directly into the character skips over the welding process which is why I’ve always conditioned myself to drag any accessories I need into the character rather than directly pasting them in.

I’m just commenting to bump this post becuase I hate that studio does not auto weld an item to a character. It really puts a strain on making npc’s for my game.

Thanks for the report! We’ve filed a ticket to our internal database and we’ll follow up when we have an update for you.
