99% of Roblox’s entire audio library, built upon over over a decade, about to be nuked in a senseless update. This will also break many games without active developers, as well as forcing every single dev to manually reupload all audio used in their game under their name.
Free to upload audio will allow alts to upload inappropriate audio easily.
It’s ok because we can use Roblox sponsored Royalty-Free™ music.
What on EARTH is this update? This is probably the worst one by a long shot.

Agreed i need roblox to get rid of this thing and its one of the worst update roblox has been released. and same, it completely destroys my game and because you can only upload 10 audios a Month i need Roblox to get rid of this thing

If it wasn’t for the fact that any audio over 6 seconds is being forced to go private, this update would actually be okay. But no, instead our hand is being forced in a decision we did not consent to or even ask for. Sure, allow new audio to be private by default, that’s perfectly fine, but existing ones should be left alone. There’s no reason to do this and only makes it harder for developers to do what is necessary for their experiences.

Leave existing assets alone.

Can’t even use my own sounds in my own game,
How annoying.

Thanks a lot… I am very disappointed in this and I have come to a conclusion which make me very sad to make.

I love and don’t love this.

First off. I DO NOT LIKE the fact that all audio will be set to private. Does that mean that currently all free-to-take audio that has been in my inventory will become unavailable to use?

A lot of games will simply stop working properly, especially those that aren’t updated anymore. We developers at times rely on things that already exist in the market for us. This is a bad change and overcomplicates things

Please Roblox, listen to your community the amount of backlash against this change shows its not in the best interest of the community

As I read more comments the more I see how this change is a bad change, it’s going to break a lot of games and show cases. If something is already free to use why make it go private, it already is a pain to find the perfect sound for things, this will only make it far worse. Sure we could upload our own, but there also is things that go into that too. It has to be able to be uploaded or fit guidelines.

But we can no longer use any user-uploaded sound that’s longer than 6 seconds.

But it’s still a bad update tbh.

Get ready for the deafening silence of pretty much every abandoned/older Roblox game.

I feel as if it would be better to default older audios to public? This will be a very ominous change…

Okay everyone the video is finished please listen to what I have to say I think u might want to hear.

This is terrible. Many have already articulated why this is going to hurt new developers who don’t have much of a budget. A generally awful inconvenience and setback for even more seasoned developers.

What happened to Roblox being powered by its users-shared free resources to lift one another up?
I don’t want Roblox do be monopolized by larger, wealthier studios and teams, but it looks like that’s what you’re encouraging by stifling our free resources. Completely antithetical everything that Roblox is supposed to be.

I genuinely hope you rethink this and retract this update. This is beneficial to nobody and pointlessly hurts developers big and small.

Hello! This seems like an overall good change reading into it (albeit it’s a bit jarring on paper). I’m assuming that the use of the term “privacy settings” means we will be able to make existing audio public after it’s defaulted to private, right? It’d be very counter intuitive to just nuke songs like this ESPECIALLY when there’s no reliable source for audio assets.

Will royalty free game SFX be a thing, ever? The free audio library while unorganized works well enough for songs, but what about people who want to make an immersive game but aren’t skilled composers?

Speaking of, what will this mean for audio composers that’re aiming to sell their work on the platform? Wouldn’t it be a better change to add a marketplace for audio?

I’d like some more clarification on just what this will do to most if not all of the games on Roblox that use songs and SFX from games, shows, etc. Most of that audio tends to be uploaded by another user.

Overall, glad that we don’t have to pay for audio anymore. But you’re sort of leaving us in the dark here.

thank you so much smh

True, but sound effects should be within the range of 1-6 seconds so no issue should occur there for a simple clicking sound if you understand what I mean. Secondly like I’ve mentioned before, this update affects me too. I’m not too happy about it but removing having to pay for audio greatly impacts me and my continuation of development on my game. One of my biggest road blockers was not being able to upload something due to it’s long length costing me 350 robux. It has it’s pros and cons, if we just all give this update some time and bring it out of the shade, I believe this could greatly benefit some games, especially for starting out developers, like me.

This update is moderately OK. Being able to upload audios for free by a limited amount per month is alright. However, what happens once you hit the limit? You can’t upload more? Locking users from uploading after the limit is very restrictive. Why not do the old way with audios past the limit? And I do appreciate Roblox attempting to respect the privacy of creators, however, bulk-privating ALL audios that are longer than 6 seconds is a poor attempt. This would be great for off-sale audios but privating all audios, even on-sale, is very bizarre. I feel like only new audios past the deadline should be auto-privated and giving users the option to private their pre-existing audios. A lot of games, especially old games that are still maintained for the nostalgia, will be greatly impacted. I myself prepared for something like this, making sure to upload my game’s audios straight to the group. I only had to fix 20 or so audios for this update. I’m not impacted from this but I feel like I should voice my opinion on the behalf of those who will be affected.

So looking forward to the 100 audio upload limit! However, is there a chance you’ll overhaul the system that copyright strikes user made audios? Such as maybe put in place an appeal system that works or a way for composers to show they made the music?
