[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

Want my opinion?

This update is literally a slap in the face for majority of the creators on the platform.
Most of us do not have a bank in our wallets to pay people to compose audio, whether that be ambiance, music, sounds, etc. Majority of intentional sound effects are over 6 seconds as well.

Majority of games after this update is introduced will suffer from audio issues on the platform, it’s inevitable, most likely player base will dwindle and people will flock to more larger games which do have the ability to compose audios. Causing quite the opposite effect y’all have been claiming to be working for.

Questions:
Are you allowed to upload copyrighted audios?
How do you get more than 100 uploads a month?
Does Groups have the same amount of uploads as the owner or does it have it’s own uploads per month?

On March 22, ya’ll gonna privating sounds that are below 6 seconds?

Well that sucks

I would recommend downloading the sounds you use in your game then reuploading them so that you can use them, for anyone struggling after this update.

It’s audios that are above 6 seconds like music and songs

My game use-case has been completely ruined by this update, I was going to allow players to upload custom audio voice lines that could be played through TV screens on the map, yet now that idea had to be thrown in the trash because of this ‘update’.

Yeah, communication with developers has really been well… awful lately. It seems the decision of going public was not a good one, and it seems they are just trying to satisfy investors and stockholders at this point. I saw someone mention that they had to see someone who was in charge of community relations IN PERSON, to actually get their voice heard. I think Roblox to developer communication will continue to get worse to the point of no return, where it will end badly for Roblox.

I think you’re confused on the whole 6 second thing. Its not an upload length limit. Its the threshold where they will make the existing(old) audio private. 6 seconds has nothing to do with newly uploaded audio. Nothing at all.

Well, it can only be 6 seconds even private audio. and that’s what I think is the dumb update about this. why not just make the max 2 hours instead of 6 seconds? or at the very least 6 minutes!

What!? Since when could you upload 2 hours of audio, the max is 7 minutes.

I was about to speedrun uploading the audio I need but it seems like it’s taking forever for 1 audio I just did to get approved
(I’m assuming the system is getting overwhelmed due to lots people trying to upload now)
so I guess I’ll just try 1 upload per day

But still, if you are using old audio, it will be Private’d. in one of my games alone I had 56 audios like ambiance or music, it’s just stupid.

I agree the 6 seconds is a bad choice. If they had only chosen 25 seconds then probably 90% of sfx would not have been affected by this change. Instead its more like 30% of sfx is affected. (maybe more)

10 a month seems… kind of low…

After looking into this a lot more, I’m unsure on how I feel about this update, the free audio uploading is nice, but it’s upload limit may stop developers from uploading vital game audio. This will be quite disruptive for games and developers if this update goes through, although I understand there may be outside pressure which is pushing this update, Roblox may want to carefully rethink and review these changes. And I won’t even get started on scripts where the music/audio is built into the code, which may pull up errors when the audio no longer exists.

Please dont do this cause I personally use almost all my audios from the audio library and updating all of those sounds are going to be so annoying and the free audio seems like an attempt to bribe us into liking this update

What does it depend on as to how many you are able to upload? Mine is 2000 atm.

well not 2 hours (that’s way too long) but you get the point, only 6 seconds is a bad idea anyway.

Content delivery silently errors, it won’t break code that builds in asset ids. But it will break code that relies on .Playing and other events and properties that depend on the audio to actually play

This update was a bad idea to begin with.
