[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

6 seconds is just the threshold for current audios that will be kept public, you can still upload up to 7 minutes

I see no way that the music label companies will be appeased with this update. The only thing it is changing is that if copyrighted music is playing in a game, it is uploaded by the creator of that game/developer of that group game. This just seems like laziness from Roblox, all it is changing is making it easier for the moderation team to take moderation action against a user for copyright infringement instead of having to search through the game to see who uploaded the audio. Copyrighted music will still be bypassed, and in turn, music labels will still be upset.
I also highly doubt that if my reasoning is right, audio will be able to become public again in the future unless they add some kind of “audio information” page to see what audios are playing in the game currently which I don’t see happening. Goodbye UGC audio.

Wow, what’s wrong with roblox?? All of my audio’s I upload directly to my account, which means all of my games (group games) I cannot use any of them even though I’m the group owner??? What a joke.

Almost all the audio I use for my game is from catalog, now I have to try to reupload them all

Genuinely terrifying and also disgraceful. This is absolutely something I’d see out of a god damn supervillain comic, seriously. It’s that bad. I cannot imagine trying to incriminate a random child for uploading music as a multi-billion dollar corporation. It’s pocket change to them, nothing more, yet they still feel the need to attack them like this. Even worse, it appears the poor guy got terminated for it, and he probably doesn’t even know why. Actual monsters, and human scum.

Yeah, this is accurate.

Anyway hopping back off now.

This is probably one of the worst updates on the same level as the material update. Forcing every audio to go private us the worst possible update ever, would rather pay more than the previous rates, than have my songs be private.

This is a super terrible idea

a ton of roblox games will just be silent and im not going to use the music made by monstercat or roblox plus im not going to reupload all the audio in my game

i feel like roblox forgot why the community asked for private assets. it wasn’t because of lawsuits, it was because people were stealing assets from popular games and putting it into their own. modellers who worked hard on their meshes were getting them ripped from their inventory and slapped onto another game with minimal credit or monetary gain, essentially turning their hard work into nothing. that’s why all of us were mad.

i see where you guys were going with the private audio asset thing, but i think this is the wrong way to excecute it. a majority of roblox’s audio library was uploaded pre-2016 and a lot of those uploaders are not active on roblox anymore. if you private every asset like this without the uploader’s consent, that’s just upsetting. there will be no hope of getting that 6 year old audio back. i’ve accumulated 3k+ audios in my inventory and there is NO WAY im going to search the catalog again for every damn tune. seriously. you’ve overlooked how big the audio catalog is lol.

i don’t mind audio uploaders having the ability to private their assets. that’s not the problem here. the problem is that many audios that were previously made buy-able ON PURPOSE BY THE UPLOADER can’t be used anymore. it’s going to break a lot of old games and new ones alike. on top of that, custom music gamepasses and song request devproducts will be rendered useless. definitely not worth the price, rethink this crap rn.

As positive as I’m trying to be in this situation, it’s simply impossible to be content with this update.

I am in full favor of the free audio situation, I myself have quite a high number of available uploads per month however there must be some workaround to the private audio situation. The fact that the asset teams have gone forward with the idea of “locking” all audio with no (current) method of unlocking said audio is pure insanity. Many games will be affected by this including big titles who use sounds from other developers.

It’s very disappointing to see such a large company come to a consensus that damages millions of the games created on their platform. I am truly saddened by the fact that everyone who manages these fields of the company agreed to go through with this change.

I really hope the free to use audios are sufficient enough.

Well, I know that… just the arguments. also, I noticed devs where threatening to leave what’s that about?

Now, for a little bit at least only the horrid stock audio will be usable, besides sound effects and audio you upload.

Who in their right mind is going to buy a boombox and play licensed music xD

Little kids who go onto Roblox and play, see that’s the thing if you want to play audio you want to play you can’t and if you do re-upload it, it has to be 6 seconds long.

i get the update from a im getting sued sort of deal but theres already a content identification bot for audios now so i don’t see why this feature really needs to exist it just over complicates everything and harms newer developers even further why should i be forced to give my private information just to be able to use a few songs and sound effects that i’d feel fit my game more than some stuff found on the catalogue (if you can even find any that fit mind you because the library is 100000+ audios)

Well ROBLOX,

Your developers have responded.

Where’s your response back? Almost every single response (over 2,000 replies) is literally against this update, if ROBLOX goes through with it – let that show you how much they value and listen to their developers.

Exactly dude! I’ve been saying that for the past 5 hours, Roblox said they would be “Reaching out to the community” but they didn’t. so much for being on this platform for 6 years now!

All this is gonna do is make things worse, for EVERYONE, not just games. This will entail that audios will be pirated just to keep games running on top of that it puts lower-skilled developers in a bind as they cannot curate their own audios. This is gonna greatly change the game in ways worse than they were going with limiteds (Pet peve).

Not to mention this isn’t a good strategy AT ALL. In no way should a million-dollar platform company allow an update that breaks a key part of the game dynamic without having a fix immediately lined up. This is most definitely a knee-jerk reaction which makes this even more sad! They should be upfront about when they’re forced to do things (if this is the case), not hide it from the literal people who MAKE THEIR BUSINESS WORK!!!
