I agree that they had a reason to hide the data, but I don’t think that they’re being clear cut with it.
I think one reason could be that they wanted more people to use the licensed music. After all, they must’ve given lots of money to APM Music; to make sure that the costs of the music were worth it, they needed people to stop using other people’s music and instead use Roblox’s licensed music (there were signs of this a few days ago when a few interesting sounds were uploaded and discovered.)
We won’t be able to change the audio assets back to the public for a while, so many developers will either have to reupload the sounds that they used from other people or substitute the assets with only public ones left; Roblox’s own sounds.
Another could be that they didn’t want to moderate the sounds anymore (especially now that they’re going to be free), so they decided to private all of the sounds to say that they weren’t there at all and to only moderate when they’re used in-game.
My reasons are mostlyspeculation; we’re only going to get the real answer from Roblox themselves.
I have also been making them sound like the main reasons, but they also sound like bonuses; to a massive decision that they wanted to go through for a long time. Who knows?
I felt as if I’m scattered; one part feels afraid for the future while the other feels angry for what they’ve done.
I hope you find a clear point of view.
And what about games with developers that don’t frequently update their games? Ill go back to my example with Breaking Point, where the developer hasn’t been online for 2 whole years!
nah roblox is going though with this god awful update, so ofc their not gonna refund ppl on the boomboxes
but dont fear, you can still play music that sounds like it belongs in a grocery store on them!
Here’s the issue that everyone else is complaining about.
I have over 60 SoundID’s in one game alone that will need to be re-uploaded. 60, in one game. That’s still under development and not near finished.
I get 100 audios to upload for free each month now, do you see the issue?
No, they weren’t most likely using FREE audios “illegally” people are outraged because instead of focusing on development of their games, they’re going to have to spend countless days, maybe weeks, on reuploading audios.
Let’s not forget the people like me who save many audio IDs in notepads and TXT files for later use. All of those IDs if not most are going to be invalid after the update’s launch, and those IDs are either gonna sit there forever or they will be deleted and have less as fitting audio for scenarios like Radios and BGM (for games like Blockate)
My long list of audio IDs are going to become irrelevant in the next two weeks, same goes for many other people.
What are you protesting? I don’t see any changes that would require this action except for the fact that they should extend the timeline… it’s not like Roblox is removing audio…
Will you take in account for people that have team create access to a game, automatically giving that game full access to the user’s sound library? Making it so I don’t have to go through the hassle of manually giving all of my 300 current sounds access to the game.
While I won’t be as impacted by this, I am not happy with this. A lot of old and outdated games will be hurt by this. It won’t affect the large developers, but it will hurt the smaller developers, and that’s the worst part of it. This is because the Roblox community uses copyrighted songs and hopefully we all know how the music industry is when it comes to that stuff. To be honest, I’m surprised they’re not targeting both developers and Roblox.
But this does raise the question: How far is Roblox willing to go to prevent further lawsuits? Anime games are one of the most popular types of Roblox games and probably violate copyright laws. Will those eventually be removed from the platform like the Pokemon games?
Overall, this is a bad thing, but it would have happened eventually. Now is a better time than later.
Except the fact that a lot of old/not worked on games will break, people who don’t give up their id will be stuck with 10 uploads, and the fact that this could come to different things like meshes and textures. So yeah, I think their is something to protest about. Not all of us have enough money to shed for sfx and soundtrack artists. Plus the stock audio isn’t as good as actual audio from the library. This is overall hurting smaller developers.
What? They are just privatizing them until the owner provides consent they want it to be shared and publicly available, I don’t see that as an issue (unless I’m mistaken)
This should absolutely come to those as well. Private by default is the correct option.
How is this hurting small developers especially?
Old games shouldn’t break if the owner uploaded their own audio, I think you are misinterpreting what privatizing means - it does not mean deletion.
If the owner of that audio no longer plays Roblox (which many audio publishers seem to do) then that audio will never be used again outside of their games.
