but for people who sells products what they made, this is still a bad things,as the sound is uploaded by them, the sound will be gone when they using in other places.
Not necessarily, there are valid points being made especially in regards to the ridiculous proposed limits (specifically for non-verified users).
I donât feel like âmusic stealerâ is the appropriate title for a person who cant afford 100 robux per audio its also a really iffy generalization since ive always used NCS music from the toolbox
I personally dislike this point but I def see where ur comin from
Ikr, im so evil when i use a sound effect that is publically avaliable in the toolbox and was created and published as a public asset, muahahah
The limit is freaking insane. I can only upload 10 sounds a month when Iâm making a game with over 75 original ones so far. My progress on a game Iâm making shouldnât be stopped because of some halfassed upload limit.
And also I CANT USE SOUNDS THAT I MADE THAT I UPLOADED UNDER MY OWN ACCOUNT.
You do know that this update is a problem for basically every game developer/ studio/ group out there? Even front page games use third party audio which cannot be used anymore. The fact that developers are given such a short amount of time to try and solve this issue before the update goes live is terrible to say the least.
Ofcourse Iâm happy audio uploads are becoming free, it gives players more room for ideas and creativity, but the way they are handling the privating of audio is basically the same as how they implemented the filtering enabled debacle.
We understand that. But it seems a bit over-reactive to outright ban the use of any audio in-game unless uploaded by the game creator. Imagine if one day TikTok announced âweâre banning the use of all sounds except for the original creator of the sound.â The news and social media would be all over that.
While this may appear to be a good point at first .We must understand the historical context of why it happened, and how things have changed since then. Back in the mid to late-2000âs the internet was taken less seriously (especially YouTube.) YouTube wasnât seen as âon-parâ with traditional television. And some believed the safe harbor prevision didnât apply to online services like YouTube. Thankfully the courts sided with Google/YouTube.
Now in 2022, the internet is taken more seriously then it has ever been before (especially during the pandemic.) And practically the same arguments were made by the music labels as Viacom made in 2009. But we know that online services (like Roblox, YouTube, Twitch, ect.) are protected under the safe harbor provisions of the DMCA act. So an attempted lawsuit on Roblox citing âcopyright infringementâ would be a lot harder then it was back in the late-2000âs.
Iâm legally obligated to say that Iâm not a lawyer and you should not approach me with legal questions or use me as legal advice in any way or capacity.
and hereâs seriously people who upload audio which was uncopyrighted,or even made by them, and they are nice to make it to free and sell to everyone, but after this update roll out,the audio became private again, they cant make it public and share it into roblox world, and also hereâs people who upload their own audio into their alts too
Please keep in mind this is essentially making it impossible to even share audio that you have created and have given permission to use, 99% of the negative responses are NOT by people who âstealâ audio, we are simply using what has been given to us on the toolbox.
Even still, this update is not even going to fix this stealing issue, if anything this is nothing more than a rushed band-aid patch.
I in no way endorse stealing assets of any kind, audio is no exception.
But when you say that 99% are by people who steal audios, that is where my suspension of disbelief is pushed too far.
You are right, sound effects are not simple. And thatâs why we use the toolbox to find these sounds to help us with our projects.
But this update is not only taking that away, but is also making it impossible to hire people that CAN make those sounds via forcing every single audio to be private, and theyâre only giving us essentially just EDM music and stingers, bare bones when it comes to actual sound effects.
I donât believe Roblox is even going to consider reverting the update from all the backlash they received. Itâs come to a place where the bridge that connects the community with the staff team is completely destroyed. We no longer get a say on what is good for us or not. They just make decisions for themselves. Ever since Roblox went public, their goal has always been just one. Spoonfeed the investors with bad updates and useless features no one asked for. This is how corporate works and we should accept that this will be a reality from now on, with bad updates and no intervention from the community.
did you not bother to read literally the rest of the post or did you just only read the line âfree audio uploadsâ.
I speculate the reason is their competitors have NO IMPACT AT ALL and they rule this child labor market with an iron fist
hopefully if we get rid of this monopoly we can whip them into shape
If Roblox is seriously going to become like this and everyone is being expected to accept this future then I want nothing to do with this platform, yes, this is how corporations work, that doesnât mean we should put up with thisâŚ
I have also come to the realisation Roblox probably couldnt have done it sooner. What enfuriates me here is the upload system. Some people get 10 uploads a month. 10 uploads. On my current project Ill probably need about 5 different sounds for a single weapon. It could have been handled much better.
I also still believe vc is one of the most unnecessary updates ever in this platform.
How do I make the uploaded audio work for other players? I, myself, uploaded the as the CREATOR. And Iâm trying to test the sound with my alt acc that has edit access. Usually it should work for users that has Play permission only. In other words, other Players.
I set âenable copyingâ into true to somehow make it work for other Player but still didnât work. How?
Short answer: You canât, Roblox isnât going to allow it any time soon.
Not when the update releases atleast. They did say they would allow assets to be set to public soon.
they better change their mind about setting the old audio to private
Soon is a blanket/corporate term for âWheneverâ.
Having been a spectator to what Roblox has done these past few years, I wouldnât expect it to happen anywhere in the first three to five months.
Reupload it. Itâs free. The limit sounds temporary.
Non-copyrighted sounds, that term entirely, is actually quite misleading. A lot of sound libraries are known to republish sounds and list them under ânon-copyrighted collectionsâ. If you remember the âoofâ sound, it was a sound that was on a ânon-copyrightedâ volume disk.
Unfortunately, the sound library on Roblox was not regulated. Therefore, itâs impossible to tell or verify without manual research that the sound was not copyrighted. Which in the long run poses an issue.
Toolbox doesnât mean that itâs not copyrighted. Itâs unregulated. Common songs (even popular sound effects) that were played on boom boxes were derived works from publishers and other artists. Roblox never got specific permission from those sources and were actively infringing their work.
You need a license to use work or you need written permission / consent from the author to use it. If some random kid uploads it to the library and you use it, itâs still infringement.
Using third party audio for a front page game when you can afford custom audio is an issue in itself. Also, third party audio runs a higher risk of being infringement. âFree copyright music or audioâ is often times republished audio from other sources. Most of the time, older more legacy games or works. An example of this would be how the âoofâ sound got stolen by mistake. âOofâ sound is just one example. Unless the source is from a reputable company, I wouldnât bank on it being âcopyright freeâ.
Itâs actually smarter in the long run. Yes, itâs a bit of a a pain now but, everyone wins. You. The person who made said audio. And of course, Roblox.
This is a fallacy in itself.
If I publish a sound affect and I give it to someone to use in their game, and then, they upload it into the toolbox, does that give you the automatic right to my work? No, it doesnât.
Unfortunately, thatâs what the toolbox (in term of audio) consists of. People who reuploaded stolen work to use in their games. Toolbox is unregulated. The majority of sounds (unless under the Roblox account) are stolen. Theyâre derived from works that someone else made. So while you think that youâre using non-stolen work, chances are that you are.
Lol no. Theyâre giving you the ability to upload audio for free (which has been a requested feature for over a decade now) and theyâre giving you an extensive library from verified sources so that you donât infringe. Itâs actually more of a benefit to you than to them. Robux fees on site actions are how Roblox makes money.
Are you certain this isnât 5 seconds? We have three sounds that are in our other group but are indicating it will be private on the 22nd.
