[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

Yeah that is annoying, but if its pointing you to a sound instance, you can grab the id from the instance soundId property

People are going to abuse this so much, free uploads are great for people who are ACTUALLY going to use them, some people will just make a lot of troll music and flood the audio section, making it 10x harder to find good audios.

This is the most ridiculous garbage so far out of this team. A lot of accounts went inactive that still have great audios on their profile. Why not make it so that moving forward all audios will default to being private and developers can choose to private already existing ones?

This is probably all part of making the Audio Library a paid service for sound effects and such… like roblox wasn’t already a difficult enough platform with audio costs, now you also will have to pay to use already existing sound effects. Utter garbage.

The best they have given for a response is simply edits to the original topic post. There’s not really even giving a clear response here, it’s just mostly quiet; despite the enormous backlash, even outside of the forums. They should be giving us a response, but have instead opted to fall silent.

The way this is going, it’s simply going to snowball. First, how is the moderation going to handle to immense influx of uploaded audios? Secondly, Roblox clearly had little time to sort out this update completely, as we won’t even be able to make our audios public for who knows how long after this update hits… and knowing Roblox it could take months, or even a year. Third, the aftermath: Games that cannot get a good enough portion of their audios re-uploaded or replaced with suitable sounds are essentially going to have a major part of their immersion destroyed. Even if this update saves Roblox money in the short term (from a lawsuit), I can’t feasibly form reason as to how it wouldn’t make Roblox lose money in the long term; just because of the damage this would do to the platform (and more importantly, their slogan of “powering imagination”; though those who already have dug deep will know that this slogan hardly holds water anymore). Roblox is willing to simply bend over for corporations, even at the expense of its community. Well, at the very least this is making me consider my options when it comes to other game engines on the market; as Roblox practically shot themselves in the foot in terms of one of the main reasons why someone may choose to develop on their platform (ease of access to tools/assets for development).

PLEASE allow audio uploaded by the Group Owner to be played in their Group Games

As a member of the Military Developers I feel like this server is really stupid, we need audio to run our games.

E.G: Guns, Doors, Voice lines. etc

I feel like any Developer that has audio for every little thing.

Coming from a small developer, this update impacted me negatively and caused me to quit Roblox development for now.

This update will probably cause me to stop developing on Roblox. It’s a shame, I was starting to get some progress done on my game.

I Created an idea which Roblox should create a system where an error message would appear if the user uploaded an audio that has been tampered with. Any thoughts about this idea I created? Let me know

On behalf of the people with 10 audio uploads, let us pay to upload audio once we’ve run out. I cannot possibly hope to develop on this platform when I can only have 10 audios per month at most. This update is absolutely abhorrent.

I agree, even if we had to pay after 10 that would be better since we have been doing so for a decade now

How exactly are we supposed to develop anything on this platform with a measly 10 uploads a month? People are practically being forced into ID verifying themselves if they ever hope to release a project in a reasonable span of time. What about those who aren’t over 18? A large majority of Roblox developers are children.

I also have a couple questions regarding your newly uploaded audio:

  1. Are you guys going to implement some sort of audio sorting feature?
You say you’re going to be uploading over 100,000 free-to-use SFX and music, but how exactly do you guys expect people to find anything with the current state of the toolbox?

  2. Will you ever raise the limit of uploads per month?
As I pointed out above, 10 uploads per month will absolutely not work, taking into account voice acting, UI sounds, soundtracks, ambience, audio queues, etc.

Lastly, you guys aren’t giving people enough time to review their game’s audio libraries and replace their sounds according. Especially with, again, I’m going to reiterate this point, 10 uploads a month. You’re not even giving them a full month to replace their audio to begin with.

I honestly feel like the ones who support the update are the ones who didnt see that tons of games will jeed to be heavily updated, including their own games

So if this is gonna be the case, this isn’t gonna 100% work, even with games with voice chat, as Players will be able to just blast copyrighted music through Voicr Chat.

This isn’t good for developers, I understand after you guys got sued for it, but it’s not the best idea to limit us by uploads each month though.

My commissioner has 10 uploads a month limit, and we were planning on making a city RP game with guns and stuff.

Cancelling commissions due to roblox :sparkles:

As a small game maker, I am terribly scared of these changes. Making audios free doesn’t make it much better… Also, why do we only get 10/50 audios per 30 days while certified developers can get 2000?! Imagine a game with a lot of sounds, like Arsenal, Juke’s Towers of Hell, or a game that heavily relies on sound effects and sounds? Sure, you could get a reliable copyright system, but no. You just had to private each audio that is longer than 6 seconds. I am devastated by this change, Roblox. Get a better method for all of our sanity.

Upside: I like how you can upload each audio per day(s), but you have to put it in consideration. Get a better team, and quickly delete audios that are bypassed. I like the step that Roblox is taking (making badges free, making audios free) but you have to understand that this is a large community and small creators might not benefit from this update.

Rant: I do NOT want just Monstercat and stock audios in my game. That would make it a thousand times worse. Please try to make this update better. I know it’s because of copyright, but think of the small people. Also think of the old games that used those old audios. Also, 2 WEEKS for this update to roll out? There are games with THOUSANDS of sounds, and you do not care about them, just like deleting most of the games that are popular. (Yes, hard to believe, right?)

Also:

Our hope is that by removing barriers like this, it will make it easier for everyone to publish content.

What?
What about other people actually USING audios that are free in the marketplace? There is mostly NO point to private ALL of the audios. Privating some audios which are copyright, and carefully examining them would have been better.

We will also temporarily pause the ability to distribute audio on the marketplace while we work on a long term solution for managing your asset’s privacy settings.

Okay, I understand this, but please, please, please, work on a better solution like you actually said.

Edit: I’m overcoming these changes by making audio in FL STUDIO and making AI-generated music in Strofe, Soundraw, and Boomy. I’m also checking audio for copyright through an third party website and checking if I can reupload it.

So - I don’t have the original audio files for the game that I had uploaded audio to, and now I need to upload the audio to the group itself.

Is there a way to reupload a sound without having the file? Or does anyone know of a way to record/download the file from roblox so that I can reupload it?

It took a looot of work to create these sound files. I understand the reasoning behind this update, but a deadline of two weeks is just crazy. Roblox games are going to take a large hit across the board - many old games will be sound/musicless never to recover. And it’s an insult to injury to release this without also releasing the ability to set an audio file back to public.

I am, however, excited for the large library of sounds to be added at least.

I think this update isn’t the best Roblox could’ve released!
