As a small game maker, I am terribly scared of these changes. Making audios free doesn’t make it much better… Also, why do we only get 10/50 audios per 30 days while certified developers can get 2000?! Imagine a game with a lot of sounds, like Arsenal, Juke’s Towers of Hell, or a game that heavily relies on sound effects and sounds? Sure, you could get a reliable copyright system, but no. You just had to private each audio that is longer than 6 seconds. I am devastated by this change, Roblox. Get a better method for all of our sanity.
Upside: I like how you can upload each audio per day(s), but you have to put it in consideration. Get a better team, and quickly delete audios that are bypassed. I like the step that Roblox is taking (making badges free, making audios free) but you have to understand that this is a large community and small creators might not benefit from this update.
Rant: I do NOT want just Monstercat and stock audios in my game. That would make it a thousand times worse. Please try to make this update better. I know it’s because of copyright, but think of the small people. Also think of the old games that used those old audios. Also, 2 WEEKS for this update to roll out? There are games with THOUSANDS of sounds, and you do not care about them, just like deleting most of the games that are popular. (Yes, hard to believe, right?)
Also:
Our hope is that by removing barriers like this, it will make it easier for everyone to publish content.
What?
What about other people actually USING audios that are free in the marketplace? There is mostly NO point to private ALL of the audios. Privating some audios which are copyright, and carefully examining them would have been better.
We will also temporarily pause the ability to distribute audio on the marketplace while we work on a long term solution for managing your asset’s privacy settings.
Okay, I understand this, but please, please, please, work on a better solution like you actually said.
Edit: I’m overcoming these changes by making audio in FL STUDIO and making AI-generated music in Strofe, Soundraw, and Boomy. I’m also checking audio for copyright through an third party website and checking if I can reupload it.
