[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

And now we’ve hit the most replies I think I’ve ever seen on a DevForum post, near-universal community outcry, 5 days later, and no reply. Brilliant.

Let this be a lesson as to where Roblox’s priorities lie, everyone.

I mean, I’d probably recommended Roblox to not have a limit till March 22, since there are games with soooo many audios, so yeah.

I am once again commenting because the stupid plugin you guys provide only checks to see if something is under 6 seconds it doesn’t check if it will be private or copyrighted. So I am guessing all my old audios that I PAID for with MY REAL MONEY will be removed. Thanks roblox!

Really you should know yourself if you have the relevant copyright permissions to upload the audio? Why should Roblox know that?
I think it uses a blue tick if it’s private, green tick if it’s public <6 seconds. Not 100% sure on that.

ROBLOX, this update is… TERRIBLE.
Earlier, even if you haven’t any robux, you can find audios for your games.
Earlier, no limits for audios uploading existed.

Now you create another Diffirence between people which don’t want verify their age with their own documents, and people which verified it.
Also you ruin almost all games which was maked with free audios.
Now, 99% assets from toolbox, which was used audios (Ex. guns, bombs) will be broken.
You break 100% of Radio and Boombox gamepasses.

>>>>>WHAT DEVELOPERS WITHOUT VERIFIED AGE WILL EVER DO SOON?<<<<<
>>>>>HOW WE EVER SHOULD WORK WITH 10 AUDIOS PER MONTH?<<<<<

Even with all this outcry there has been no official response.

I’m going to be clearing some space on my computer to download Unity today.

As great of an update as this is, I do fear the effects that it will have on older games will be major. With many veteran accounts no longer using the platform, older games will more than likely loose their charm without the audio. Even if the games are broken, at least we were able to remember the good times listening to their audio (if they had any). I hope that this update recieves some changed, other than that it’s pretty good to about copyright issues.

they can just make a list of audios in the radio and use that. I have no other idea on this.

  1. I have some games that use more than a hundred music used from the marketplace uploaded by various users. Does that mean my games will lose all of the marketplace music?
  2. Am I allowed to upload any music from YouTube (ex. NCS) just for my game? Or will get warned/banned for doing this?

I need any representative to answer my questions since these new changes are critical to my games, not just giving me predictions. Thanks.

Knowing roblox… yes. I got a 3 day ban for this

because apparently its “Inappropriate” and shouldn’t be used on the Roblox platform. Support was very understanding and appealed my ban though

I also see that the creator of “Welcome to Bloxburg” Is offering us compensation if we bought the gamepass. We can choose from the following: +40,000 Money +2,000 “BlockBux” or 3 months neighborhood access. Pretty good deal ngl!

You only need 50K to DevEx now.

True, True. I still would like songs from OTHER artists than monstercat. But here is the downside… I don’t enjoy EDM music. Maybe roblox could reach out to a different recording company as well?

NCS music shuold be fine, as I have heard their music in game a lot before. You shuoldn’t have any issue with uploading their music. Just be sure to give proper credit somewhere in you game.

Okay so this isn’t as bad as it sounds. Free audio uploading is great, and the ability to at least unprivate audios that undergo this change is a good solution. The majority of UGC sound effects should transfer over fine, at least.

The problem here is music. There are a lot of tracks used in Roblox games that are made by others, whether they are copyrighted or not. If creators who’ve released their music on the platform didn’t want others to use it, then they would have already privated it themselves. I only see this breaking games that thought the Roblox Audio library was there to be used as an audio library. Which is all of them.

This is common knowledge! If you’re uploading Audio, you’re volentarily adding to Roblox’s free audio library. Why should we be pushed towards using a propriatary one, or uploading our own?

Heres some advice thing: can verified users not have audio privated? or popluar devs! please that would be great!

It’s so reassuring to see that after 4,334 posts (including deleted ones) there still has not been a single response from staff to our feedback.

Absolutely ####ing disgraceful.

You know this has gotten out of hand when someone makes a Change.org petition over this update. Hopefully ROBLOX responds to it in some way if it reaches its goal.
