Wasn’t some monstercat audio being content deleted for copyright? Even if it’s not, that’s only SOME audio, and we might not even like the genre they select!
This is not good in my opinion, it’s pretty much erasing roblox games that use free to use audio for their games. Yes copyright sucks and is using copyrighted audio should be checked, but making people having to pretty much remake games because of this update is not good for the developer new and old. We should not have to buy thousands of dollars worth of audio software just to make a few sound effects. The boom box gear allows players to play any audio, what does that mean for games that have similar mechanics like radios? Why can’t we use audio that is made by our friends in our games? Why not remove the ability of using free models, images, and meshes entirely and make it to where we can only use things made buy ourselves? This is change, but not for the best.
This update is the exact opposite of bacon because everyone loves bacon.

Hi, I’m back. Time to give a more detailed message, one that proves enough. This message is probably gonna get thrown under the bus, but oh well.
This update is actually horrendous. The fact that even your top developers that you so desperately praise for your own revenue that you have today seriously disagree with this update that your team has come up with. I want to be fairly honest with you. Did the team even CONSIDER the potential consequences that such a thing like this would have. I THINK NOT. This is going to be such a horrendous update. For those not aware, let me give a quick lesson:
Small Developers
Small Developers will be heavily affected by this change. As they are probably not the most rich enough to upload audios, they usually rely on other people’s audios. With this new crippling update that privates EVERY. SINGLE. AUDIO. within the Roblox catalog (apart from some selected accounts internally), developers will lose complete access to a majority of their audios that they use. This will result in a less enjoyable experience.
Bypassed Audios
Bypassed Audios have been on Roblox since the early 2010s. They have become more frequent due to a poor moderation team. With this change, bypassed audios will become even more prevalent. I don’t mind this system of free audios, but this could open up a whole can of worms for people who REALLY like uploading inappropriate audios on Roblox. I feel like this should be restricted in some way. (eg. requiring premium for more uploads every month for free)
Boomboxes (aka Audio Players)
Boomboxes are a staple to Roblox’s own culture. They have been around for the longest time. People mainly use public songs on the Audio Library from many other people who upload songs. And everyone likes this, but when you private a TON of songs that people have uploaded, that functionality gets removed. There is NO WAY I am going to go around with a boombox gamepass that I paid for, playing annoying APM songs uploaded by Roblox.
Conclusion
If this is Roblox’s vision of the metaverse, I don’t want to be a part of it. If you release this update, you are CRIPPLING, almost KILLING a majority of Roblox’s developers off. I hope you look at what’s happened and re-evaluate the choices you’ve made. This will fail, and to be honest, you’ve already pissed off a majority of Roblox’s community just with this one post. PLEASE rethink this update. We are begging you, not just me. But the whole Roblox developer community wants this to stop.
For all the people saying this update will be good, you’re wrong, and what you’re saying is wrong.
Best comment thus far. Absolutely amazing.
Will this be releasing on or before march 22nd? We need this feature now.
Speaking on the behalf of a lot of developers, we just don’t like this update. This narrows down a huge selection of audios, and some we might not even like to use! The audio that other composers can create are awesome, but some sounds that fit games really well will be set to private! I personally am not a composer, so I can’t create my own audio, so the only sources I have to rely on for games are Roblox, Monstercat, APM, and just a little more. It’s absolutely mental what this update has caused.
Monstercat audios are from ProSoundEffect, which is a major sound effect designer. So it is possible, but ProSoundEffect is the true owner, and they have a lot, genre wise, pretty sure you can find everything you’ll need in the 170 THOUSANDS sounds they’ll provide… Once again, sadly and ruining our buiseness.
This is genuinely awful, and I feel like the only way this could be good is to mix the two options. You can get your 10 free a month, and then after that, you can pay Robux to upload more. The inventory only audios make it even worse. Overall, I absolutely hate this change.
Wow this is great, I only get to upload 10 audio files per MONTH, or forcibly give in my own ID to get 100, I’d rather just pay at this point.
Will I now need to screen record, trim, and reupload each audio I used in my experiences before? This is horrible. Please revert it if you do not want multiple developers to quit.
This reminded me of another reason about why I’m so heavily against this update.
Stock music/sound effects can feel incredibly bland and cooperate, and it can be hard to find a particular soundtrack/sound effect that fits whatever game you’re making. A lot of monstercat’s stuff wouldn’t fit in a lot of games going for a particular style. And when everyone’s using music/sound effects from the same libraries, it’s bound to get extremely repetitive.
Please do not make this official. It was effect small devs like me and some other people in a horrible way.
You have an incredibly point. The amount of audio files Roblox allows us to publish per month is like being paid under minimum wage at McDonalds, but to earn more, you have to give away all of your personal credentials. I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Let me get this straight here… Suppose you own a group and the audio you use in the group’s game(s) are owned by you. When the time comes where the audio is privated and “no longer” can be used, am I, the owner, be able to give the ability for the group game(s) to keep the audio if I make the audio public or grant permissions for my group to use it?
This update should definitely be reverted in some way. For me, its very hard to even find audios that I like and this doesn’t help either.
Will the 250 licensed music limit be lifted? With all the new licensed music roblox is adding, I feel like limit should at least be increased.
At this point people are going to have to start reusing techniques back from when you couldn’t upload audios and had to use roblox’s own sounds (over a decade ago), I’m not saying that its 100% quite like this, but it is still a problem
This update is kind of a weird one, on one hand having audio free is nice and even being able to private audio is nice. On the other hand it makes no sense to private already public audio, if I had an audio I did not want others using that is public I would just private it. but now I have to go though all my audio that I want to stay public and make it public again? It makes no sense at all!!! I think a way better approach to this would be to just have new audios be private and leave already public audio public… but for some reason I don’t think privacy for developer’s audios I the purpose of this “update” it just does not make any sense no matter how you look at it. Why would anyone ever come up with this “update” and try and play it off as “more privacy for developers”
anyways thats the end of my ted talk.
Although the idea of getting hundreds of thousands of unusable audios is great, putting every single audio that has been uploaded (probably millions of audios) private, will probably “mute” thousands of games until the uploader decides to make them public or they are replaced.
also just to understand, is it 10 audios per month per account? it feels like a very low number.
