That’s been it for ages, that’s why we’re here. We were bound to make custom sound effects, custom combos, and so on. With 170k audios from Monstercat, there’s 99.99% chances that any devs will find what they need, no matter what it is.
Edit August 2023: This post hasn’t aged very well, Roblox handled the audio privacy migration a lot better than I expected and differences to non-updated games haven’t been as large as I thought. However: most of the bugs I mentioned here are still present in Studio and I still haven’t been able to perform the required updates to some of my experiences.
The only words that come into my mind after reading this post is “Oh no”.
I’m indifferent to audio being free to upload. I rarely ever uploaded audio before, and I have the Robux to do so anyway. For the same reason, the 100 audio cap isn’t a problem to me. I can see this being a problem for big game creators that upload loads of audio. But 10 for non-verified users? I could take a fat guess that average Roblox player uploads - within margin of error - 0 audios per year, but the average developer uploads more, and will further upload more after uploading becoming free. If you wanted to bypass the limit, creating an alternate account for every few new audios is just a hassle, not to mention having to configure the audio privacy settings on each asset after uploading them.
These audio changes will without a shadow of a doubt put boatloads more work on the moderation team, which was already widely known to be undersized and overloaded for the sheer size of platform Roblox is. I really hope there have been changes to the moderation team to allow for this, as it’s very clear that an audio requires tons more work to review than a simple image does.
Not allowing private audios to be used by other games is the second most awful idea in this post. I will have to go back and re-upload ALL the audios for ALL of my experiences, not to mention many many classics from “Old ROBLOX” not working anymore if the creators of both the audio and the experience have gone inactive. These games won’t invoke nearly the same charm they used to without any sound at all.
I know others will believe differently on this point, but I don’t have any use for privating assets. If I wanted to take an asset down, I’d delete it. If I didn’t want it listed under my profile anymore, I’d archive it or disable the viewing of my inventory via my profile. I could see this being useful if I wanted to make an experience as a surprise and not want people to know what it was going to be about.
While having the assets private by default may be useful to some, privating almost all audios is a BAD idea. Yeah sure, it does “make Roblox more similar to other game engines”, but this is NOT what we want.
But BY FAR the worst, most un-thoughtful, idiotic thing in this entire announcement is introducing a game-breaking change like this while Studio still has show-stopping craters of bugs that prevent developers from updating their experiences to attend to them. These are issues that I and many others have reported SEVERAL. TIMES. It’s a completely irresponsible - nay, a downright stupid - decision to unload these workloads onto developers without giving them the proper tools to prepare for them. Example: The Audio Discovery Plugin is ENTIRELY USELESS if a developer can’t access studio IN ORDER TO USE THE TOOL. This happens every time I open the place, and I haven’t been able to download or reconfigure the audios are used in it.
Even if I had the brain power of every supercomputer in the world combined, I would not even be able to begin to fathom how Roblox thought these side effects in the name of “privacy and security” were considered reasonable and overlookable, let alone justifiable.
Some of these changes are good ideas, but in this scenario, the bad and the ugly FAR outweigh the benefits. I can only hope these issues get addressed quickly just like they haven’t in the past. Sorry if this post is difficult to read, It’s 3am for me and I’m trying to get my opinion out as fast as possible. If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.
Agreed, however there are a handful of roblox audio that i enjoy
Betrayal and Redemption
Carol Of The Bells–ALT. 1
Fast and Furious
Zombie Stomp
Tribal Carnival
Yeah thats it.
I uploaded most of the sounds to my profile instead of the group since I can hear them and tweak them without needing them to moderate
where do I opt out this is completely stupid and will take ages to fix
Overall fix: Roblox needs to make all previously uploaded audio still public. And once it is released, make the privacy option not have anything selected and one option must be selected so the user can truly choose who they want their sound effects and music to be for.
Also in my opinion, they shouldn’t be able to decide how trash you are themselves to decide how many audios per month you can upload. Each user should get a fair amount, and ID verification shouldn’t be the main factor they’re always relying on for security.
OH GOD THEY ADDED THE SLOW MODE BACK? Welp.
Roblox really turned, “Game Breaking” too literal.
Well the pro’s of this really outweights me more than the cons in my case.
Yeah pull your money out and cut your losses asap lol
This is disappointing because alot of games use music for example JToH (Jukes Towers of Hell) and all of the towers use music (10 floors = 10 music) from roblox audio library. and any other game that use alot of music in it anyways i kinda hate this update.
If we upload audio to our personal account, let us use that audio in our group games.
If that ability is removed, the burden you’ve just put on developers is unwarranted and unacceptable.
Hello, Tophat here.
What the HELL IS THIS EXCUSE OF AN UPDATE?
Do you know how many people use existing audio in the toolbox for music? That’s basically everyone who didn’t have the Robux for it. How the heck do you think this will work out well, with thousands of games using free audio.
That audio tab is the *only decent tab in the toolbox and now YOU’RE BASICALLY TAKING IT AWAY? Alright, you’re keeping the ones you uploaded. Are you aware that all the music that Roblox uploades CLOGS EVERY. SINGLE. SEARCH. YOU. MAKE. Not to mention how most don’t even suit anything. Your stock music is bland and useless, no offense. I don’t remember any time someone legitimately used it.
Alright, we can get free uploades. But, there are only ten per month. Ten per month. TEN PER MONTH THAT’S WAY TO LOW, NOW IT COULD TAKE YEARS TO FINISH A GAME IF YOU NEED A LOT OF SOUNDTRACKS OF YOUR OWN.**
I have NO idea what are you smoking back down in that horrible excuse of a server room, STOP. BREAKING. THINGS. WORKING. PERFECTLY. FINE.
You have learnt NOTHING from the materials update. You have learnt NOTHING from the blended animations update (which is still going to break a ton of games) you’re currently releasing
Now, to get me angry at a Roblox update requires a sheer ton of incompetence. This has only happened 2 times before now. The materials update and the animation engine fixes. Surely you can’t go beyond this, can you?
Oh, right. This is Roblox. They’re totally gonna find a way to outdo themselves each time.
I agree with both of these images. Sadly can’t like.
Deciding to use Love2d until this decision is reverted.

There are soooo many games littered throughout the years, and developers that left the community years ago, I’m lucky to be in a position where I have access to some of these games from back then, and from other people, but other games designed by solo developers will just not be the same, audio is really important in game creation, and can help set the atmosphere for the player, without the sounds, they will feel empty or incomplete.
Nice you got so many. I have 10. The 2000 might be for very famous developers or big studios.
Sorry if I’m misunderstanding, but from what it sounds like, Roblox is planning to eventually cut off use of my assets, under a group I’ve made?? If I’m wrong please correct me, but if I’m not this is horrendous!
PLEASE reconsider this. I’ve uploaded basically all of my audio and textures to my account for using it in my group, especially since I have a testing place where I work on new updates under my account.
If this ever does change to where it’ll block off permissions, I’ll be forced to either go through every single one of my audios in my experiences to enable permissions, or have to re-upload ALL assets I’ve created for this game (With the fact they’re planning to do this to other asset types in the future), which would end up being well into the thousands.
I won’t be able to edit my game for the next few months (at least with changes this major), so I might have most of my game’s audio usage revoked, which would break most of my audios that are above 6 seconds long, all until I can release the next major update for it.
This is extremely disappointing!
This is a bad move are my thoughts on this.
Thats not my point, it might be good, however the way they title and tag things is bad, I stated I may look for something only to find things not even related to the term I searched. Or sounds may not be what I searched.
They need to do a better system for this…
well i think this is not a good update people are going to bypass audios like before…
This is probably one of the worst updates roblox has released, I beg you to edit your post as we need to tell Roblox to get rid of this. It completely destroys my game with many public audios being used.
Well if you’re only a sound designer, then probably. But if you’re a developer that uses UGC sounds all the time, then it should be the other way around.
