I don’t know how I feel about this update at the minute.
We are losing so many of the audios that are so unique because of when they were made. But to lose access to these feels like we are attempting to elude the past.
Music is such a beautiful part to roblox, in many cases helps enhance the atmosphere. And I understand copyright and so forth, but there are some audios that aren’t copyrighted but we’re simply so popular because of the time they were uploaded.
I don’t know, maybe I’m looking into it too much. And I feel we’ve been drawn away from the negatives that can quite clearly come from this, with the free upload for audio.
On this, can we please have an in-engine API for searching the Creator Marketplace, this already sort of exists with SearchCatalog in AvatarEditorService, and I’d love it to be expanded to every Library/Catalog category, not just the Catalog.
Another thing, since the upload fee is now gone, this in itself is an amazing change and should’ve been dropped ages ago, however, I believe we should still be allowed to go over the limit of 100 audios a month, even if it involves paying the old fees that used to be in place.
This update is complete and utter garbage. You are limiting the ability to find cool music that is copyright free but not in your “licensed music” program.
I have some audio in my game that without it will just ruin the fun
i can live without some of the audio but the engine sounds and the whistles are a very important part of the game who wants trains with no engines and horns theres no fun to that
this is neat Roblox, but please for the love of god stop taking down Audio I paid for with real money that I own the rights to, no copyright infringement.
On the same note, how does one copyright a fire crackling effect? Serious question. Since you guys consider a fire sound an offense of copyright.
well i hope not
i hope the creator can change it to public, or at least if it is public it has like a whitelist system where the creator can choose who can use.
I have a hunch that if you have DevEx’d on your account you get 2000 uploads since currently I have 2000 uploads, might be something worth looking into.
Some have said that even after DevEx’ing, they don’t have 2000 uploads. Some other idea that came up is that it could be based off of playercount.
Good - you can finally create sounds for free, this is very good, mainly because it will open up the possibilities of creating experiences with storytelling. There will also be several sound effects available by roblox.
Bad - you won’t be able to use any audio already published from the platform, I think this audio privacy system is cool but it would be better to have all current audios public
I don’t understand the reasoning behind making previously uploaded audio private… 95% of the audio currently uploaded is meant to be public, would it not make more sense to do the opposite?
Agreed, this update is disastrous. Any games which just so happened to have a boombox gear or gamepass? Yeah those don’t work after this. What was the proposed solution? Use some copyright free music that I’m sure loads of players would listen to over their favorite songs.
This will break hundreds of thousands of games no doubt. Free audio uploads isn’t an excuse for basically wiping the whole audio library clean. So many sound effects, music etc. literally unusable.
This is a great change, but retroactively applying it to all audio over 6 seconds is a horrible idea. There are plenty of songs/sfx right now over that limit that people uploaded for use by the public. You should keep all existing audio public and allow users to batch edit audio settings from the audio page. Plenty of the sounds and sfx people use are uploaded by accounts which are inactive, so they will never be made public if it applies retroactively.
I think the majority of the community agrees with this sentiment and I implore you to listen to them. This will break thousands of games and millions if you include legacy content.
I wholeheartedly agree with your statement. This is a horrible misunderstanding of the entire platform as a whole, and it is very apparent that this is only being done to appease the music companies.
How, and I mean how, do they possibly think that making virtually all existing audio private (ever heard a sound effect that is more than 6 seconds long? I know I sure have) is a good idea?
All old games and free models? Silence. Games with boombox gamepasses? Scams, now. They haven’t even told us how it will work with group games with multiple developers who can upload audio.
This might be the worst update Roblox has tried to push outperiod. I would’ve preferred if Rthro and the new “”“improved”"" materials launched on the same day.
This update sounds okay for NEW AUDIOS, NOTHING ELSE.
I feel like I am speaking for the entire ROBLOX community when I am saying that there should be a setting in the ROBLOX filter to allow you to hide ROBLOX and partnered audios. When I am trying to see audios made by other creators, songs from ROBLOX go on there and its extremely annoying to have to sift through all of the useless audios to find something.
Bravo. I could not have put it any better myself.
I share in full your frustration with these changes.
I am not sure if I’m willing to stay. This platform becomes harder to use by the week.
