Hello everyone, so recently I saw a post on how to make music and I though to my self why is it in Art Design Support. I mean it could be considered to be art but that doesn’t make any sense when building can be considered art and it has Its own topic. So I’d like to prepose a new topic called “Music Support” this would help composers out a lot more because as of right now every day composers don’t have much help when it comes to the forum. I think the Music Support should just be like any other support topic. Thanks for reading, please partake in our poll down below; thanks so much From John!
Edit: PS: If you vote please comment your thoughts.
We have something called, #help-and-feedback:art-design-support , you can post music related things there. (I know you said something about art design, but music is art)
What I was trying to say is that art design itself only has so many things in it(meaning that it’s not as frequent as other types of threads in the forum). I can only see a reason to spit it if both art and music topics have equal or is posted frequently. Because you don’t see many music threads out there.
The likely reason why building has its own support topic is that it’s one of the most crucial parts of Roblox games.
Additionally, if you look at the devforum groups, the “Builders” group has the most members (4.3K) out of all the others, while “Composers” only has ~400 members.
You can add the “music” tag to music-related posts you make in Art Design Support to help people find it. That’s what tags are for.
I feel turning game-design to miscellaneous would be more useful, since from what I see game design is the category for everything which is not scripting / building / art.
Music / sound is another form of art, hence it falls under Art Design Support.
Searching through Art Design Support for latest mentions of keywords like “music”, “sound”, and “audio” doesn’t turn up frequent results (a couple weekly at best).
I don’t think there’s a need for another subcategory specifically for sound design at this time.
Game Design Support is specifically intended for game design related topics. Users should not be misusing this category for miscellaneous topics. We don’t want a miscellaneous category because it would encourage users to dump threads better suited for other categories there.
This is a support category for help on everything related to game design (such as level design, mechanics, game flow/loops, user experience (UX), narrative, or monetization) on the Roblox platform, from extremely basic to even the most technical of issues.
Not meaning to contrast your views about the changing of the category since It was merely a suggestion, but just to prove my point of what game design support has grown into, here are a few recent posts:
While I would say this is a bias data capture, 25% of the posts there do not seem to fit the category leading to my belief of other a new category or the category being redesigned.
Furthermore, the fact many new developers have little grasp over what storyline is makes the category a constant hotspot of what you would call ‘mis-placed’ posts.
We really don’t need more categories. There used to be so many and then they cut down because it was just too much. #help-and-feedback:art-design-support is fine for music.
Yeah I know that It’s a form of Art but like I said Building could also be considered. I think it would be a lot easier for music after all music on Roblox is an upcoming popular job. I think in the coming years there will be a need and why not start now?
Sorry, i’m going to presume you have not read my previous statement and it I am going on a bit of a tangent. my suggestion was converting game design into a more generic category then making a music exclusive category.
So as of right now there are 432 people in the composer group for the DevForum. I think that shows there is a pretty big and growing community of composers. Now I feel as if there isn’t a support for them where they can be more different then art. I get it music is art but as I’ve said many times buildings are art too. It’s just when you think of art mainly when you’re new you think of things like drawings, GFXs, Logos, UI, and much more. Now with that said I think this category would give more insinuative for people looking to become a composer knowing that there’s more help like people who are looking to become a builder and Scripter. More than just a general topic something special. It would give the Forums a chance to broaden their horizons once more and open to more people. Thanks for reading and keeping up with this topic, from John.
Edit:
So I’ve gone around trying to collect Data. Most people don’t see the use of it due to the fact we’re dealing with a niche market. I’m still collecting date and it will be posted on this reply.
Same reason we got rid of things like VR support, they clutter the forum if nobody uses them. Just use art design support, we have no plans for a music category.
