Adding Early Access To A Game

Hello! Adding early access to my games is something I never really think about, do you think that adding early access is something that games should add or should not add. Please vote in the poll and give your honest opinion on early access, thanks!

When people pay for early access, they expect something that they would see before it becomes free to play.

If you don’t plan on making early access really that meaningful, just don’t add it.
But if you do,
Example:
Lets call people that paid for access ‘Alpha testers’ and people who didn’t ‘Beta players’

Alpha testers get an exclusive sword that the beta players can’t get anymore.
Alpha testers get a badge for paying to play the game.

It’s thanking those who paid to play your game and wanted to support your development before your game gets popular.

Early access is good for people who have robux but it gives you bad reputation for the community who doesn’t have money to buy early access.

idk,i kinda disagree. bc you would need as many feedback and suggestion as possible. So i wouldnt bet for it,unless if you gonna reward that people. but i will stay away from it

I think you shouldn’t adding a paying early access, since it’s really frustrating for a person when you pay for the game and the game never go anywhere and it just close for unknown reason. However, I am for an early access if it’s free, yes, it will be full of bugs and that’s the point of an early access, but your telling it, so most of the peoples will understand - don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of haters in this world and I know there will always be someone who will complain that there is too much lags even if it’s because the game is in early access. However, I do think it will help you kinda build a small community and get some feedback from people, which will be, in my opinion, way better than having an early access which most of the peoples will be scared to buy since they don’t know what to expect from your game.

I think early access is a good thing, but if you plan on addi by early access you need to commit to it if people are paying to get access to the game.

Early access can be quite fun because of the small chill community as well as help test the game. I’m currently paying quite a bit for early access to a game and enjoying it, and think more games should do an early access phase or open tests.

Even just doing open test weekends can help hype people up for the overall release of the game.

This is supposed to be in #help-and-feedback:game-design-support, correct me if I’m wrong.

If you plan on giving certain benefits which other cannot get when it releases, then go ahead.

I think early access stuff can be really fun (I own the early access version of Apocalypse Rising 2). HOWEVER, if your going to do that, you can’t just abandon the game, like Alone did, because people actually invested R$ your game. Also, be prepared for some complaining because people have and image in their mind that early access games should be finished and working perfectly…

How would a game get a “bad reputation” by having early access?

Well an admin moved it to #help-and-feedback:game-design-support but I was asking the general public on what they thought about early access in games which probably would belong in #development-discussion.

Granted early access causes players to avoid your game, but if it’s something profitable like Blox Burg or something where it’s a unique experience then they’d be more likely to pay.

@samuelsg

Well yes it is kind of annoying when a game is dropped after paying for this. However. a lot of these games make you pay so they can put more into Development. A good example would be Vehicle Simulator, at first he charged but with that money he could pay for housing, other devs, etc.

No not really, see it does cost money and that’s ok. Sometimes people need to raise money. You have nothing to back up your claim and I’d like to know more. So, why do you think it gives the a “bad reputation”.

Overall,

I think these Developers mostly use this feature to gain Robux. Keep in mind not everyone lives at home rent free or doesn’t have to pay for their bills. That money can go to support the Developer and give them a reason to keep going. They could also turn right around and pay more people to help with their project hopefully raising the quality and enjoyment. So over all I believe yes, as long as it isn’t a baseplate scam.

People who don’t have money to buy robux dislike the game until the game is free to play.

You can’t dislike a game you haven’t played before.

Early Access, although it can be successful, is really hard to pull off and there’s no real need for it. People expect a pretty polished game, and if it’s not polished, they may get angry. This can establish a bad reputation for your game.

Unless there is a really hyped up release and everyone is dying to see your game, then no, early access is not beneficial to the players or the developers.

Roblox is becoming more and more professional and effective when it comes to designing games. “Early Access” just isn’t a needed thing.

I would absolutely IMPLORE you, however, to have a closed BETA version of your game that is free so you can take feedback from others. Knowing what your players think your game needs is more important than what you think your game needs.

No you don’t really need to play. It’s just a want and if you really want to you could raise the money and buy it forwarding the progress of the game. You might dislike the game for trying to support its self but without financial support the game will most likely flip.

I honestly don’t understand the appeal of early access.

Okay, you wanna play this game, right? It might come out for free in the future as a completed and high quality project.

Wait, it’s on sale now? For ROBUX? Why would you want to pay Robux for an unfinished, buggy, and possibly low quality project when that very same project is gonna come out soon finished and free? There’s literally no advantage to it! And people cancel early access projects all the time! There goes your Robux :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay but seriously, I don’t think it’s worth it for something that can go wrong in so many ways. I understand the stigma behind early access games and don’t think it’s a good idea adding it in costing Robux.
