Hey everyone. So I’ve had a lot people ask me how I add these different textures to my renders like this:
Well, Your in luck because I am here to share this with you!. All credits to AlexanderGFX. He has some pretty amazing tutorials that will help you out. Here is the link to all of them: Alexander’s GFX Tutorials. NOTE: This is done in Blender. I am sorry C4D users)
Now. Before you start anything, you need the materials that you are going to apply to your character. Alexander fortunately has 2 material packs that are public for use. #1 Material Pack, #2 Material Pack
Now that you’ve downloaded the material packs, open up Blender and import your character. Before you import our material, Remember to extract the .ZIP folder to a normal one. Or else you won’t be able to access it in your Blender File View. Once you’ve done that, you click File > Append and find where the material pack is downloaded. Click on it, and look for the Folder labeled ‘Material’. Click on that, and click on what ever material you want that is in the Material pack. You can also do this with other materials. it doesn’t have to be this specific one.
So now, you have your choice material appended into your scene. Now, you click on the head of your rig and you open up your shader editor.
Now, delete every node except for the image texture node and the material output. And click SHIFT + A to open up the nodes menu. Then, hover over Group and you’ll see a node group there. Click on it and connect the node group to the image node and the material output node.
NOTE: Since I am using the older version of Alex’s material pack, The name isn’t set properly. If you are using the latest one, you’ll see the name of the material you want to apply.
So now, you will notice that your avatar has started to give off an aura. Now, you can do whatever you want to the node. Change the color, increase the strength and change the distortion and the noise levels. It’s all your imagination. If you want to take this a step further, you can apply more than one material by appending more than one. It makes some pretty cool effects. If you want to take if EVEN FURTHER, you can put different materials on different body parts. This way, you can change each part individually instead of having the full body selected.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments. This is my first time doing something like this and I am hoping to turn it into a series for me. Feedback would be greatly appreciated. If there is anything you would like to see that you would want to learn about, tell me in the comments too.
Here is my finished result
