Advanced Options for App-Based Avatar Editor

Currently, making outfits and characters in Roblox is getting better at a break-neck pace, especially with the introduction of the advanced / live editors for the app on both PC and Mobile, however, there is one major issue that seems to have been placed into the app for quality of life, but it has ruined the potential for making complex outfits.

Roblox only allows you to stack clothing items and accessories through the Advanced menu on the website, which is very tedious to use, and requires you to go to the website just to edit your avatar, even though you are already editing it in the app.

My suggestion would be two-fold:

  1. Show currently worn items in a list that can be expanded to show all layers of a category (i.e. all worn face accessories, or all worn hats), allowing users to take off worn items very easily without worrying about finding them in the larger inventory lists

  2. Enable an Advanced mode for the app-based avatar editor, where you can enable two features: Clothing Adjustments and Accessory Stacking

Clothing Adjustments will allow the user to edit special values in the API such as “puffiness”/thickness to change how thick the clothes are, allowing them to stack items more efficiently without creating thick layers. Incredibly useful when wearing items such as jackets, warmers, socks, etc as without adjusting this value, the clothes create way too much volume and the outfit does not fit together properly

Accessory Stacking would disable the client-side accessory limits such as not being able to wear two “Pants” items, and not being able to wear two back accessories. This is because a lot of special clothing items such as costumes, socks, tops, bottoms, etc tend to be mis-labelled by UGC creators, or may have clashing categories with other items in the inventory which makes them impossible to properly wear without using the advanced menu. There are other more glaring cases, such as not being able to wear a handbag or purse while wearing wings or a cape since both can be considered “Back” accessories.

Overall, these changes would greatly improve the flexibility and capabilities of the Avatar Editor portion of the app, and will not require any changes if at all to the backend, as I have tested all of these systems using the API, and everything is functional except the storing of the clothing thickness in Outfits, but all of the other features would only need client-side application and would prevent users from being arbitrarily forced out of creating outfits they would like to see on their avatar
