Hi everyone,
This is my first post on the Dev Forum, so not sure how it all works to be honest. I’ve been developing on ROBLOX for 6 years and over the last week have been working on my first plugin - Macurly Roadways.
The plugin works by allowing the user to choose a start and end point for a roadway and then use curve modifiers to change the direction, camber, height etc. of the road. Using keybinds extra accessories such as kerbs, guardrails, streetlights, powerlines and signage are automatically added in at correct intervals and seamlessly blend to the road and to the side(s) of the road the user wishes to choose.
I’m sure there is probably some similar work out there already but thought I might share my creation to the forum for some general feedback, ideas etc. I plan to sell my work on the ROBLOX Marketplace eventually, but need advice on pricing - unfortunately, at this point I have no intentions of making the software opensource.
In the coming weeks I intend to develop intersections, traffic lights, automatic merging between road types and a user friendly UI interface. Further, in future I would like to explore the utilisation of an API to allow the software to match real world road data and import this to studio, allowing for accurate copies of actual roadways.
Furthermore, I have already tested the system in rail and aviation based environments to accurately generate stretches of railway and taxiways with the same system. I plan to develop this software further in the coming weeks to release a stable version for each of the 3 sectors; road, rail and aviation.
The current version of the program has support for the following features:
- Node based placement of roadways
- Snap to node feature with automatic curve support for seamless blending
- Keybind support for adding roadway features include kerbs, lighting, guardrails etc.
- Over 5 types of roads varying from a one-way road to a 4 lane motorway
As of July 5, the following features are about to be completed:
- Automatic signage including speed limiting, turn chevrons, crest signs etc.
- Intersections and merges
- UI to replace keybinds
Anyway, I have attached some pictures of my work so far and will update this post every now and again with development progress. Please share this around so I can gain some traction and motivation for future development.
Thanks! Maco.
Please note the drive link attached is for a video of the system in use. Please also note that the software seen in the video is NOT the final product and does show a few minor issues with the system.
