1. Take player advice
I think the best way for a better playerbase is asking for their advice, do they like or hate certain aspects? You can code a suggestion UI or join and ask them.
2. Use social media
You can use Youtube, Twitter or other social media to promote your game or view different stuff.
3. Do regular game updates
The game should have updates that have new fun, engaging content, you can try adding new badges, tycoon stuff or more.
4. Bug testing
Make sure new content has no bugs.
