Advice on making buildings look more realistic?

Hi there! I’m a programmer and for one of my upcoming games, I need to build a small town with brick buildings. Here is the reference art that I’m using for making the building:

However, after attempting to build this, I end up with this:

I’m really new to building so I’m not sure how to make this building more accurate to the concept art, and also just make it look better in general. Could anyone help?

Thanks.

One of the problems I can spot with the building so far is the colour scheme. The red seems right for a roof, but the yellow is a rather obnoxious colour here. In comparison to the picture you showed, the actual building is far more tan and brown, rather than yellow and grey. Try making the yellow bricks to be tan and the grey bricks to be a slightly darker, more brown version of the tan.

I agree with this, the colours currently look a little… sickly? The yellow is way to green toned which gives it this vibe. I would suggest a lighter tan colour than what you want considering it seems that the texture is making the colour more muted and darker than what you’re looking for.
The roof colour is nice by itself but if you wanted to get closer to your reference I would suggest picking a more vibrant red as it seems again the texture is muting the colour a little (textures are something that can heavily impact a colour’s undertone and vibrancy so keep that in mind).

For the windows I feel like they contrast way too much with the other colours making them take all the focus from the rest of the build and overall are too vibrant compared to the other colours, this would work if the other colours were also that saturated but in this case darker windows would work better, I would suggest that you make the windows a darker colour so it will not contrast as much. Something you could try out is placing a black brick that is the shape of the window in the window frame, then infront of the black put a thin block of a transparent bright bluish-green (or any other colour depending on what tone you want your window to have and how vibrant) infront of it and set the transparency to about 0.2 - 0.3 depending on how vibrant you want your windows to appear.

The grey is also just not working with the other colours, I would recommend changing that grey to a dark brown colour, try not to make it too close to the main colour though as this will make it look like one plain colour, making the build look plain and boring.

You can also try making more fancier window frames, you can take reference from these quick examples I’ve made.

Window Ideas

Colour used for wall ; “Burlap”
Colour used for window frames ; “Medium brown”

Window designs are quite easy and fast and can really enhance the apperance of your build.

I would also recommend making these windows less wide,

One thing that helps me personally with building is the free plugin “Building Tools by F3X”.
I used this plugin to build the example windows I have provided, and use it in all my builds that are not modeled in blender.

Overall the shape of the building is fine, the only problem you are having is colours and lack of detail.

Hopefully this information can help you. Have a great day and I hope to be updated on the build! If you got any questions feel free to message me.
