I’ll admit, there are a lot of games out there with amazingly good looking UIs, and some with the opposite (My opinion). Yet, however, they all seem to have an extremely high amount of players. 10,000+ players. I’ve come to the realization that UIs aren’t really what makes the game a game, depending on the theme, but the actual game itself and what the players do (The purpose) is what attracts players. However, I believe that UI is an important aspect that we should not simply throw/ignore. I understand that the UI style typically must match the game’s theme. I don’t wish to leak too much about the game I’m working on, however, it’s a fighting game and has a simple low poly build to it, but with materials and smooth terrain.
Question: What is an ideal/most welcomed UI theme players will enjoy interacting with?
Adopt me has an attracting UI with soft shadows and feels more enticing.
Build a Boat for Treasure has imo, a somewhat unorganized and messy UI that I find un-intuitive with the shop and gold being ontop of change team
BIG Paintball has a nice but somewhat confusing style with white squares and black backgrounds at times with transparent backgrounds?
Bloxburg has a normal, somewhat easy to read catching, UI. Plain and basic yet still good enough.
Basically, make sure your UI sends the message across, something important? Put it at the top in bold. Keep styles the same, messy UI can lead to poor quality looks and feels. Make sure it isn’t blown into their face with straight up micro-transactions, it will begin to feel like those cheap obbies that force you to buy things every 0.00001 seconds.
Overall the best UI that you’ve posted here. The cartoony style makes the game iconic and more appealing to the younger age group on Roblox. The shadows and good color schemes make the UI aesthetically appealing to the eye.
Build a Boat for Treasure:
The UI looks quite messy, the bright blue contrasts too much with the icons. The font looks weird compared to the icons, and the icons are all different styles. Nothing about the UI in Build a Boat seems enticing.
BIG Paintball:
The UI is very nice and modern, although there are so many graphics on the UI that it looks too cluttered. The cartoonish modern UI is great for games like BIG Paintball, and would definitely entice players into continually playing the game.
Bloxburg:
The UI is modern, quite easy to read, but not eye-catching. If you are creating a modern style game, why not? It’s aesthetically pleasing and looks good to the eye.
The Conclusion:
You should create a UI that will fit to your game theme, and that is not too cluttered. A low poly style game should have either a cartoony or modern UI, but it’s your choice. Overall, don’t follow in Build a Boat for Treasure’s footsteps.
I personally dislike the UI for build a boat for treasure.
The present fads are more “modern”, “simplistic”, “smooth”, and “minimalist” UI designs. Obviously, high detailed UI such as those in League of Legends are also appealing.
Stick to a maximum of 2 designs, more than that and it will seem a bit messy.
Ultimately, the goal of the UI is mostly based off of how easy it is to understand and read, but not solely on aesthetics.
Design doesn’t matter, just make sure your UI fulfills the requirements below, then you should begin “beautifying” your UI.
UI shouldn’t be just beautiful, it should be user-friendly as well.
If you want player enjoying interacting with your UI, check your genre, if it’s roleplay and aimed at childrens, go for somewhat cartoony.
If it’s FPS and aimed for teens, adults etc. Go with somewhat modern, such as CSGO’s UI, BF’s UI.
