Affected by the new TOS Change regarding usernames

Up until now I had the word “Roblox” in my username since 2017 but unfortunately, Roblox had recently changed their Terms of Service to state that users cannot have “Ro/Blox/” in their usernames, knowing I could be affected, I contacted support on what I should do since I didn’t want to be moderated or have an unneeded/unprompted name change but all I received in the replies were just “Check the terms of service”. Is there anything I can do to comply with this new change? Since I don’t want any troubles.

Expected behavior

Either an username change or a notice.

How is this a bug? Help and Feedback

Gather staff attention because I didn’t want to be falsely moderated for a thing I did way before the terms of service change, similar tos related “bugs” were also made in the same board

You’re not going to be moderated. It only affects accounts created after the change.

I would still like a staff reply for further clarity

Dont worry about it too much, if your account gets banned for simply having that username, you could contact Roblox support for a free username change.

Also, you can STILL make new accounts with the word “Roblox” and “Blox” on Roblox itself.

Hi!

I feel like it’s another moment where people are scared when they don’t need to be. I saw people say like “I will get banned because im poor” and this will obviously not happen as this was allowed previously. This happened with games/experiences before and it only counted new games

Even if it affects everyone, only this will happen mostlikely:

  • Your username gets reset (Free username change)
  • You get to choose a new username for free
  • You get warned (Worst case scenario but this is very unlikely as you didn’t break any rules)

If anything they will probably just censore “Roblox” or “Blox” so its not usuable if it really goes into affect. But you can still wait for a staff response to get more detailed information

Hope this helps

In terms of legal matters it’ll be most likely exactly how the game name-related TOS change happened. Games up to a date are not moderated, but after yes. Same for accounts.

If you look at the Terms of Use that will go into effect on June 30, 2025, for a creator’s username or community name to include “Roblox,” “Blox,” or anything similar as determined at Roblox’s sole discretion, they must be associated with experiences that include those names, and those experiences must have been published before June 22, 2022 in order for the names (Creator username and community name) to be retained.

So, just having an account created prior to June 22, 2022, with “Roblox” “Blox,” or any similar name in the username doesn’t mean you automatically comply with the rules. If you don’t have an experience — or aren’t associated with any such experience — that includes “Roblox,” “Blox,” or a similar name in its title and was published before June 22, 2022, you’re still violating the policies.

Considering that YouTubers like Sharkblox don’t have any experiences with “Roblox,” “Blox,” or any similar name in their experience titles, nor are they associated with any such experiences, they would also be considered in violation of the policies. Even if that were the case, the policy does not provide any allowance for display names — meaning display names containing “Roblox,” “Blox,” or similar terms are still considered a violation.

Not to mention, what’s actually applicable here are Creator usernames and community names — not even display names. So, having “Roblox,” “Blox,” or any name deemed similar by Roblox at its sole discretion in your display name would still count as a policy violation.

According to Roblox’s dictionary, a Creator is defined as: Any User who creates, uploads, publishes, generates, or otherwise makes available UGC on the Services. Creators include but are not limited to Developers.

UGC, according to their dictionary, stands for “User Generated Content.” UGC is content of any kind or nature, whether material, assets, or otherwise, that Users (including but not limited to Creators) upload to, create and publish on, or otherwise generate through or make available on the Services.

This means it would be incorrect to say that an ordinary user with no UGC uploaded, published, or made available on the Services would be affected by this. This rule is already stated in Roblox’s Terms of Use under the Creator Terms section.
