This is so cool !
Games that require communication as “Outlaster” and every restaurants, social, teamwork games will die
We will have games like “make a pretty poop” “skibidi brainrot” “eat poop to make more poops simulator” thats so amazing,
As a 10 year old with several brain deseases and mental issues, i’m so happy that you guys are making all the good games unplayable, cuz we need more poops, more skibidi, more brainrot,
Roblox has stated that they would allow creators to moderate their own games. This essentially means developers who, typically, are not in-game moderators (and that duty is outsourced to other members of communities). There is no guarantee in this entire forum that Roblox will allow bypassing this for “moderation purposes” nor a guarantee that they will even implement these systems (as they are only “exploring” the ways, not saying “we will be implementing”).
They’ve also stated they they will be “exploring” such solutions, meaning they can still fully shut down plugins for not using Roblox’s official means (despite them being, as of now, non-existent and not confirmed). This can, and most likely will, still impact community moderation tools.
No “exceptions” to these rules have been provided, in fact it’s stated numerous times that attempting to bypass this system will be disallowed. All it takes is 1 Roblox Staff member to say “this logs chat messages without us endorsing it” and then Khols, HD, Basic and several other popular admin tools can be swiftly removed.
I am, once again, not fully against this change. I simply think that it’s too strict as of right now, in terms of the age categories, and will cause severe impact to the entire Roblox community, to a point where irreversible damage will be caused. This can be implemented, as I’ve said before, to determine if an individual can use the chat as a form of “social media” and simply restrict it to users of that age per country but it shouldn’t work as an umbrella because that causes issues.
There’s a number of things I’m uncertain about with this. In a lot of roleplay styled games (Frappe, Boba, Kohau, Pablo’s), we rely on the chat to communicate with users who, a lot of the time, are in fact a lot younger than us! However, this style of gameplay as been around on Roblox for years in a sort of educational basis. I’m not sure on how we can adapt to something like this where our leading team members and educators cannot communicate with most people in our community and people who sign up for our sessions without just outright going in and automating something what we use to help teach people how to become leaders. A surprising amount has been learned in terms of education and leadership from these basic little sessions people host in Roblox games - while we could automate these things, it’s a form of hands-on experience that provides a legitimate basis that is going to be heavily disrupted by these changes. This is an entire genre of game that is going to be completely changing and locking out a lot of potential.
Becareful what you post OOooOOooo..~… it might be considered OFF TOPIC and get flagged! OOOooooOooo~!!! Spooky!!
No but this update sucks. A form of compromise is the bare minimum we are asking for at this point seeing as they thought it was such a good idea, they jumped the gun to post this on all social medias WITHOUT even considering consulting some devs for this.
With all this stuff and all. I worry for what the next stage even is once this is discovered to be a failure?
Now coming in 2028, you need to give us all your PII for a criminal background check!
On a serious note/to play devil’s advocate though. A background check could remove some potential predators presuming they have a prior history of offences/are a registered s*x offender.
These past few “safety” updates are really reminding me of Watch Dogs. I wouldn’t be surprised if Roblox starts implementing some CTOS type system that monitors everything you do next update
The fundamental issue this poses for RP games is that this update assumes that users can play ROBLOX games together with some unable to communicate and this is only a minor issue. For RP games where communication is the game, this is simply unacceptable. Having two players in an RP game that can’t chat is like having two players in a shooting game who can’t deal damage to each other. Imagine playing phantom forces but you can only shoot half the enemy team. This totally kills the game.
The only solution would be to partition users into servers containing only people they could chat with. The issue with this is that to do this with ROBLOX’s proposed age groups one would need to partition their playerbase into 5 segments. Firstly the tools ROBLOX is planning to provide at least from what has been seen are insufficient to do this partition reliably. Secondly, while for large RP games like our own such a partition is damaging but doable, for small games this is simply not feasible. No new RP game will be able to get off the ground if its playerbase is effectively locally divided by 5.
Early 2026 is closer than you might think. It’s 6 weeks until 2026 comes around and what’s stopping them from just implementing it in the first week of January, without ever adopting any suggestions or assisting with any complaints? As a developer surely you’ve seen Roblox make updates without any prior notice or without improving it from prior notices - as has been done many times.
Roblox isn’t confirming it, they’re “exploring” it. That is a significant wording choice because if their “exploration” shows that it’s unfeasible to do this then they don’t have to do it. They “hope” that a solution that doesn’t exist yet addresses moderation concerns but we haven’t received any guarantee that they will do this.
The games you develop for will not be affected by this because they’re popular but the fact that there’s so many unknowns for every other developer shows the impact. There’s 1850+ messages in this thread and an overwhemling majority have agreed that this impacts their games. Imagine developing for years and integrating the chat function into your game only to be told that this function is now being inhibited and could cause the game to force server splits (where every server has, in some cases, at most 10 players per age group).
This needs to be realistically adjusted to effectively classify Roblox Chat as a form of “social media” and start complying with governments. As has been said time and time again the “vendor” Roblox has chosen can store the data for however long they want (Roblox itself washes its hands of by saying that they immediately delete the data but there is no confirmation that this function is even enabled, or even works). The downside of this is that under 13s (in most cases) won’t be able to chat. The upside is the other 60% of the community will be satisfied with the change and be able to make more conscious decisions.
Not to mention this also extends to team create. How many young people (13-15) will want to try develop for a game only to realise that their peers are in the 18+ age bracket, essentially forcing them out of the development team because of age - which was never a direct issue before. I can assure you that this point specifically will affect any game that hasn’t started using external platforms because it takes one developer to be in a separate age bracket to cause trouble for all developers (as they either have to accommodate to 1 developer, potentially risking a majority of the development team being removed [in the case where it’s a head/lead developer this will probably happen] or exclude a developer who, has potentially, contributed significantly to their project.
Unrelated but have y’all noticed just how quickly western countries around the world have rolled out “Safety Measures” that involves some kind of AI verification? Isn’t it suspicious? Maybe Palantir has gotten control of Roblox…
I’m gonna be honest bro your replies are too long for such a small issue and I don’t wanna read all of that
The point is they are clearly either going to allow you to moderate your games personally or make their own official solution for it, in either case the issue is solved. If they weren’t doing it they wouldn’t comment on it, I’m not going to get into an argument over the word “exploring” when they literally admitted this is a problem, its like you ignore all the other pieces of context lmfao
How will war groups even be able to function? With me almost being 21, how does my age group gonna be able to blurt out orders during combat?
How will I be able to tell my trainees if they are to shoulder to shoulder? (STS) or form a single file line? (SFL), and how will I be able to coordinate with any of my people, if they are under 17 years old.
Its not just my group (Teutonnia) which would be heavily affected, every war group that has training involved will be hit aswell, like USM 1940’s for example..
This is genre killing for alot of groups, and as I commented in another post, this will just drive more people into discord.
AND THE FACT WE CANT HAVE OUR OWN PRESET MESSAGES LIKE FOR GUESTS BACK IN THE DAY IS ABSURD.
Unlike what you’re implying here “exploring” doesn’t mean the same as admitting it’s a problem. It’s like your teacher “assuring” you you got a good mark on a test (they can very easily assure you and then give you a fail) because neither of those words means “we will do” just “we might do”. That is the end of the debate.
And as I’ve said before, it’s a “small issue” for you but impacts every game doesn’t have a large playerbase. There are too many unknowns as of now. Will community moderators be allowed to see chatlogs or just developers? Will developers be able to involve themselves with their communities? Will influencers cease to exist, in terms of public interactions? These are real issues with this system that haven’t been adequately resolved (instead we’re told “we’re gonna restrict you”).
How can we trust your word? This just seems like a whole lot of corporate speak to me. “We’re committed to…” “To ensure compliance…”. There’s been tons of data breaches of companies who collect data like this, what’s to say it won’t happen to Persona either?
That’s the primary issue for me, and one a lot of developers seem to be ignoring. And, primarily, Roblox execs
Is the community game genre huge? Like that’s what pays Roblox bills? No
But don’t forget our roots. It is how Roblox got it’s start, it’s what MADE Roblox popular. Community games like FEAR were some of the first EVER on the platform
Cafe groups, restaurant groups like Pablo’s and Kohau, war groups, roleplay groups (mine), star wars groups, cult groups, SCPF, religious groups, group recruitment plaza (GRP), Chicago / roMob, Yakuza…
It is going to DESTROY a portion of Roblox that, sure, isn’t bringing in the largest profit margins. But is a STAPLE on Roblox and is what MADE Roblox popular. We are the oldest genre of game on Roblox, even if they refuse to acknowledge it
And they are willingly, knowingly, and purposefully destroying our genre
