Age-Gated Visual Content for Experiences

I would like to suggest a feature that allows developers to make an experience playable for all ages while automatically adjusting certain visual content based on the player’s verified age.

For example, a game could contain blood, vomit, or other mild mature visual effects, but these would only be shown to players who meet Roblox’s required age-verification level.

A possible system could work like this:

  • 18+ verified players: Can see the full version of permitted visual effects, such as blood or vomit.
  • Age-verified younger players: See an age-appropriate alternative, such as removing the blood or replacing it with a harmless effect.
  • Unverified players: Automatically receive the safest version, with mature visual effects disabled.
  • Developers could mark specific effects/assets as age-gated, and Roblox would control whether they are visible based on the player’s verified age.

This would allow developers to create experiences that have more mature visual elements without making the entire experience inaccessible to younger players.

For example, a tsunami survival game could have a character get hit and show blood for verified 18+ players, while younger or unverified players would simply see the character get knocked back with no blood.

I think this could be especially useful because it would allow developers to maintain a kid-friendly version of their game while still offering additional visual effects to appropriately age-verified players, rather than forcing the entire experience into a higher maturity category.

Roblox could also provide APIs or built-in properties that let developers detect which version of an effect should be displayed, while keeping the actual age verification and eligibility decisions controlled by Roblox.

Hi there, this is a known feature request. Feel free to look up the previous posts to see our responses there (essentially this is quite complex to support moderation for, and various rating authorities around the world are hesitant about dynamic ratings, but we’re continuing to look into this).

Also fyi - you posted this in the ‘Forum Features’ category, not the product feature suggestions section!
