Allow player to choose their gender (looking for LGBT input)

I’m redesigning my gym game and I’m trying to work out the locker room situation. Sadly it’s 2020 and we’re still not allowed to access the player’s gender in-game, so I’ve found myself in a pickle. I’m aware there’s more than two genders so my current idea is to allow players to pick character rigs with either masculine or feminine features, whilst keeping their normal hair/hats/etc. The options to choose the character rig won’t be labeled/named, it’ll just be a gui image along the lines of this:

and the feminine/masculine choice is what guides what locker room the player is allowed into. And anything that’s “gendered” in the game right now will most likely follow the standard blue=masculine, pink=feminine color scheme - and this will really only be the signs for locker rooms so maybe 4 objects at most in the whole game.

What I’m looking for here are the opinions on the above ideas from members of the LGBT community and anyone else with an opinion on this. Having locker rooms is crucial to a gym and it’s what is expected to be there in real life, but I also don’t want my game to make anyone feel excluded when unnecessary.

But why locker rooms at all?

The locker rooms purpose is to change into pre-selected outfits and will not feature any kind of inappropriateness - I’m implementing this system so people can’t wear inappropriate outfits to the pool, yoga area or weightlifting/exercise area (this was a problem before) and people won’t be allowed into those areas until they change in their locker room

Have you considered using rigs that aren’t masculine or feminine in the first place? The blocky, classic avatar achieves this, but I assume you’re not going to use that rig. For example, Robloxian 2.0 could qualify as any gender.

Anything that has masculine v.s. feminine can be replaced with something genderless. Restrooms can be single rooms.

Have you considered having just a locker room, no gender at all? Single rooms could also suffice.

Outfits can also be genderless. Regular outfits can be just t-shirts and hoodies with pants. Swimsuits would be full on coverage, regardless of gender, and shorts. Same thing with yoga and lifting.

Hope this helped. I’d love to see your final creation.

Just have one locker room problem solved. I’m sure then nobody will really care. I’m straight but to be honest I feel like most lgbt people would feel odd having a locker room tagged other. What I’d just do if you want to make people feel equal is just have a plain “locker room”. As for rigs you should be able to tell woman is woman girl is girl man is man and so on blocky is multi and 2.0 is multi.

Hey, massive kudos to you for reaching out and asking the community when unsure about this sort of thing. It’s a mindset that will take you far in life!

Well you can’t do that because, people may create data bases of people gender and other personal information. So I don’t see what’s wrong about a player choosing Man or Woman from a GUI. If you want you could add a neutral or non-binary. Plus even if a boy chooses girl, it’s not like this is a real locker room.
