As a Roblox user, it’s currently very hard to unlink an email from a Roblox account after that Roblox account has closed. This is because after an account closes, Roblox redirects us to the main message screen every time we try to access the account settings menu. Also in order to change an email, Roblox requires 6-digit codes, which makes it much harder to automate the request by manually calling the API endpoint.
I think that after an account has been terminated, Roblox users should still retain the ability to remove the email from the account, without having to go through a long session of customer support messages.
When an email remains attached to a closed account, the “remember my password” by email option sends emails to the email linked to that account. Someone may not wish to receive those emails or maintain a connection between their email and the Roblox account(as if they never had the Roblox account basically).
It seems strange that Roblox can “softlock” an email address in their database if the account happens to close down.
Also a use case can be that someone needs to delete an email account but not lose access to the closed Roblox account state(for example the termination message and ability to open support tickets for that account). But that extends the thread to allowing the change of email in general(just like we can change the password of a closed account).
For me, it’s a bit of a security concern. If I have my email on there and then the account gets stolen, somebody now has access to an email with my info attached to it.
For me, you hit a limit at a certain point of linking a single email to multiple accounts, making it so you can’t link anymore, allowing the removal of/deleting email addresses from terminated accounts would make it easier to free up space to link more accounts, without having to create more emails.
Doesn’t it make sense however to keep the account and email linked in the case of proper moderation? Wouldn’t someone just be able to reuse the same email and create a new account to break rules again?
The Roblox website can keep security logs in some other internal database for that(past email addresses list). It just seems weird that the setting itself is softlocked, because that assumes many things that might not be true, for example that the moderated user will have access to that email address, forever.
