As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to “Gift” items to staff members, friends and family members.
If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because currently there aren’t many ways to gift people items besides “giftcards”.
Over the last decade, Roblox hasn’t done anything related to “giftsplosions” events like there used to be in the past. I’m sure many users miss that, or never experienced it and would like to have that experience.
With Roblox’s current internet presence & activity, I assume a lot of things related to giftsplosions would cause controversy in the community, such as tier-based gifts, Rich developers getting cooler items, newer players getting almost nothing.
To prevent this, I think Roblox could allow users or Parents to gift items to their friends, kids, family members, community associates, etc.
- You can gift people 3D Clothing & accessories, 2D Clothing and In-game items (gamepasses)
- One way I could see this work is, the person who wants to purchase the gift, would automatically have to pay for the item’s price. The buyer has the option to then choose when the gift will open and customize the way the “giftbox” looks, which would have to be a roblox default gift mesh, with a custom design. (This would ofc have limited customization, to prevent anything inappropriate, but would still be customisable enough so that all of them look personalized for the person who receives it.
- The person who receives the gift, will only get the giftbox in their inventory, until the “date of opening” arrives. Once that day arrived, the person will receive the item in their inventory and will keep both the gift and the prize.
- When buying the gift, the robux and payment will go to the Creator of the item that will be gifted. These items could be Roblox-Made items, and UGC items. These would only be on-sale items, no limiteds or off-sale items. (If the buyer choses to gift an accessory/item created by them, off sales can also be gifted)
There are a few issues I thought of but could be prevented:
- If the item gets deleted, the buyer will receive their money back. Not the receiver
- If a gamepass becomes obsolete, the buyer will receive some compensation.
Personally I would love this feature to be able to gift my community staff members some items without telling them in advance.
A lot of users that didn’t play when Roblox did their giftsplosion events, would now get to experience the magic of receiving Halloween, Christmas and other Holidays gifts.
I would love to hear more thoughts about this, ideas and perhaps even see this a potential Roblox feature in the future!
