Almost every time I insert a free model, ToolboxTemporaryInsertModel is inserted into Explorer

Reproduction Steps

1) Insert a free model from Toolbox

Expected Behavior

The inserted free model from Toolbox should appear in Explorer and be selected.
No ToolboxTemporaryInsertModel should exist.

Actual Behavior

The inserted free model from Toolbox appears in Explorer, but is not selected.
Also, a model named ToolboxTemporaryInsertModel is inserted into Explorer.

Workaround

Drag and drop the model into the world instead of clicking to insert it.

I am still experiencing this issue with some free models I insert.

EDIT: This is severely impacting my development experience.
Even some of my own models from my inventory are creating ‘ToolboxTemporaryInsertModel’ when I insert them from Toolbox. Furthermore, the model I inserted is not pre-selected, so I have to find it in Explorer in order to select it.

Again, this does not happen for all models I insert from Toolbox for some reason. Only some.
This is only happening for Models (not images, meshes, audio, etc.)

I am now experiencing that some Models will not even insert into Studio from the Toolbox.
For those, the insert button does nothing.
Instead of inserting, it inserts an empty model named ‘ToolboxTemporaryInsertModel’

I just found out some more information about my issue!

The issue only occurs with models that have scripts inside them!
Hopefully this information can help you figure it out!

It is hard to develop with this issue!

This happens to me too, instead of clicking on the model in toolbox and inserting it, you could drag it to the workspace, this worked for me. Hope this helps

This is till happening to me too. I also had an issue where particles would screw up and be weird.

Thank you for posting that workaround!
I added it to the Workaround section of the original post.

Yeah, I’ve been having the same issue. I saw that a ROBLOX staff said that the issue was reverted but I’m still experiencing this. It’s even more annoying with this bug because, if I have a script in any of my models that I’m re-using like perhaps a GUI I’m planning to edit from an older game I worked on, it doesn’t automatically highlight in the Explorer and I have to manually look for it. This is a massive issue for larger games as I have to spend about a minute or more looking for it. Is there a way to revert this or is the bug still relevant?

I do not know why that staff member said it is reverted when it is not.
Maybe it was for some people, but not for us.

The bug still exists and is relevant.
Thankfully, there is a workaround:

Click and drag the model into the world inside of clicking to insert it.

Thank you for clearing things up, I appreciate it.

Edit: See response below, it shouldn’t be an issue when you restart Studio

Not relevant anymore

Hey @Machinezy and everyone else in the thread, thanks for letting us know. Can you do the following:

  1. Try inserting the asset that didn’t work again
  2. Let me know if it works? If it doesn’t insert, reply with the asset ID as well as your Studio version (You can find the Studio version under File → About Roblox Studio)

Hi everyone.

Another fix has been made. please close and reopen studio. This issue has been tracked internally and we are working on a long term fix. Our apologies for the difficulties that has caused.
