I’ve been exploring 3D modeling for Roblox and have been using Blender for a while. It’s definitely powerful and well-supported, but my current laptop struggles with performance—lag, crashes, and high memory usage are becoming pretty common for me.
I’m wondering if anyone here has experience with alternative modeling software that works well on low-end or budget laptops, and is also compatible with Roblox Studio (i.e., supports .fbx or .obj exports).
What I’m Looking For:
Lightweight or optimized for lower specs
User-friendly (beginner-friendly is a plus!)
Good export compatibility with Roblox
Free or affordable if possible
I’ve looked into tools like MagicaVoxel, and Blockbench but I’m open to hearing more suggestions and experiences from other devs.
If anyone here has tips, recommendations, or even workflow advice for low-spec setups, I’d really appreciate it.
I would say 3DS Max or Maya, but those cost big money and run worse on my machine .
If you want CAD software, which is more for engineering and has an entirely different learning curve, but still technically 3d modeling, then there’s OnShape, SolidWorks, and AutoCad.
The first and last one are free or have a free version IIRC. You can also open them on the browser. Definitely different though compared to Blender.
Only keep one or two things open when working on something. It’s annoying, but that’s your situation. Pull up something else on your phone if you can.
You might also need to not do anything too advanced. I’ve got an old apple MacBook that’s almost 10 years old. I use Logic Pro for music and tried making Melodic dubstep for fun. This genre has a lot of fills and layers, so as I went on, my laptop would crash and I couldn’t open the project. Similar situations have happened with Blender with my old laptop. Sometimes it opens, sometimes not.
