so im working on a game and most of the models (guns, melees etc.) as well as the audio (footsteps etc.) are toolbox assets becuase i know nothing about modeling and i wouldnt be able to make such good looking models myself. my question is, how safe am i using these assets? i mean like copyright and stuff
If you are using assets from Creator Marketplace (i.e. Toolbox on Roblox Studio) for projects or tests, it is completely fine! They are helpful and pre-built as well as the audios (if the creator is @Roblox) as being licensed by the platform and APM.
Upon safety, it is somewhat safe as long as you are using them while knowing their internal scripts and if they are trusted or not.
im scripting the game myself so thats not really a problem, but like can my game get taken down for using these models or something if these free models turned out to be stolen or something
No this cannot happen to you unless a script has something malicious that makes your game get taken down.
okay, that answers my question. thanks!
If you are using the toolbox, it is safe UNLESS you are using team create.
I got banned due to inserting a model into a team create game. It had a hidden thumbnail and contained inappropriate models. Immediately after inserting the model, team create autosave did its thing and my account was deleted on the spot.
Yes, I did appeal. Yes, they said I was rightfully banned. Yes, they said to check the model before inserting it. Yes, they misspelled multiple words while replying to my appeal. No, I did not get my account back. Yes, I reported the model. Yes, it is still up.
Basically, if you are using the toolbox, make sure you trust what you are inserting and if necessary, insert the model on a baseplate before inserting it into a team create game. (yes, I do this with every model I insert because I am paranoid)
It is normally pretty safe, unless you’re using team create like m_w said. I would say you shouldn’t use it though, because the models will most likely either have buggy scripts or bad looking models. Even if the models look good, if you use multiple toolbox models then your model style will be inconsistent. You will end up having low poly and high poly models in the same game, which never looks good. In my opinion it is just better to make your own things, because things that you make are reliable (no viruses and same asset style), and much more rewarding (if you make your own models you will feel much more satisfied than if you use somebody else’s model.)
oh damn, guess im gonna check every single model as well then
yeah i know. i have friends who can model and they sometimes make models/meshes for the game, but i still have to use free models for the gun models (and as i said i do the scripting and animating myself)
You could try paying somebody to make models for you
yeah maybe ill think about that if my game somehow gets popular lol. right now i only have like 2.5k robux which probably wouldnt get me that much
There’s actually a lot of decent models in the toolbox, and often all it takes is modifying the skin/texture to make it fit your game. Absolutely you should go ahead and use them, they can always be swapped out later if desired.
