Ambient Lighting Issue Help

I need help with Ambient Lighting. I wasn’t sure which category to post this under… but if anyone can help.

  • I am currently building a map with a couple rooms in it. It’s supposed to be a horror game. I want a few rooms to be well lit with no issues, and other rooms to be pitch dark. I know Ambient setting in lighting has something to do with it.
  • The issue is that when I change the Ambient setting in lighting to black, it does achieve the effect in the rooms I want it to be pitch dark in, but it also affects the rooms with a light source in it. It creates this weird effect on the ceiling.
  • I cant think of any solutions so far… I am not sure if it’s something I have to script. I will provide screenshots. BTW I am using future lighting and would prefer to use it. Unless there’s a different option.

Room 1 with light source + ambient is not set to black (above image)
Room 1 without light source + ambient is set to black (this is what I want, above image)
Room 2 with light source + ambient is not set to black (this is what I want while having the other room pitch dark, above image)
Room 2 with light source + ambient is set to black, not what I want. (above image)

To wrap it up, the 2nd and 3rd image is what I am trying to achieve for my map.

Are you using surface lights for the ceiling lights?

My personal fix for this issue is to have a spotlight inside an attachment positioned at floor level. It’s gonna eat performance if it’s done too much, but so far it’s the only thing I can think of.

Spotlights, surface lights have the same problem.

Oh, I haven’t tried this yet. Although the performance thing might be an issue, I do have a ton of lights.
