It seems like after a recent update, my Ambient lighting stopped working. Areas that were previously dark in my game (caves) are now fullbright as if Ambient was set to (255,255,255).
This seems to be related to Smooth Terrain and Sun Shadows. Closed spaces made out of parts do not have this issue, but areas enclosed by Smooth Terrain do.
I’ve been playing a game called The Maze, which hasn’t been updated in two years, and since yesterday, the ambient lighting is very bright. It used to be set to 0, 0, 0, and you couldn’t see without a light, but now, it’s very easy to see. This happens on all of my devices.
Having the same issue. With zero changes to my game, all of the areas that are supposed to be dark are now mostly illuminated. I even checked old versions of the game, going as far back as October of last year, and they still render incredibly brightly in studio, while video I have of the same version of the game is still dark. I have not enabled any betas and this is happening in the public version of the game. This needs to be addressed ASAP.
Update: I made a bug report post about this. We’ll see what happens.
I decided to test this out myself by making an underground cave. I set the brightness to 0, and ambient lighting worked fine. I set the brightness to 1, and suddenly the cave was brighter. So it looks like terrain doesn’t cast sun shadows anymore. I put a part over all of my terrain and the cave is dark again.
We’re noticing a similar issue with our game which also uses terrain. We haven’t made any changes, but suddenly all caves and areas underground are completely missing the ambient lighting they had before. It makes it look significantly worse and much more bright than it should be.
Issues are still occurring for me and more so in one specific game currently. I put in a ticket with ROBLOX with some generalized info. RefNum:118319740
