Sometimes, I feel the urge to close some of my topics because a lot of them are like very random and out of place. Its only available to Community Sages and Dev Relations. I really want that ability to close, open, unlist and archive our topics because it would be a really cool feature for the forums to have because we cannot allow any more replies.
If you ever want any of these to occur to any of your topics flag your post and explain your reasoning, if the reason is fair then dev rel will tend to comply with your request.
A problem I see with this is that people can misuse this to shut out othersâ opinions, which is very anti-Forum-like behavior. I just cannot imagine how the members would use thisâŚ
Topics closed by users can and would end up filling sections with completely dead topics that have no merit or responses. Itâs better that itâs handled by forum moderation IMO.
Then donât make topics you feel that youâll need to delete in the future.
Like mentioned this will just get abused, these features should only be used for moderation purposes.
And, there is the issue where a topic breaks the rules or gets derailed or whatever, a moderator would go in and unlist + lock, but an abusive OP would just re-list it and unlock it.
i mean, community posters and post approval already randomly remove any posts that donât fit their own opinion;
under the announcements, there were so many replies that got removed simply because they said they didnât like the change
@sjr04 no, once a community sage or a dev rel locks it, you cannot unlock it. Because someone already closed the topic it isnât possible for you to unlock it after a sage or devrel locks the topic. It will only be available to your topic if someone already did lock it.
@minkmink they were likely removed because they didnât contribute to the OP at all. (e.g. replying instead of liking or just mindless ranting without providing potential solutions)
@XxScottieBoixX I donât think that is how discourse worksâŚ
Saying that you dislike a change isnât contributive to any discussion. The DevForum rules state that random rants or complaints that donât actually do anything shouldnât even be in the forum. Every member is obliged to have read these rules.
Please donât swing accusations of bias or ârandomnessâ around. Itâs simply untrue.
That doesnât happen. The reason why those replies get moved out is because of their short-answer nature, not their opposing opinion. PA, now CE, does that because they donât want replies cluttering up a valuable thread, especially where engineers are trying to get legitimate feedback instead of just âi like itâ or âi donât like itâ.
and keeping the discussions category clean wouldnât be something thatâs more important than camping under announcement posts?
also thereâs so many âi like this changeâ posts under them, so that argument is kind of redundant
What? Every category falls equally the rule, so if certain posts squeeze out of it when they shouldnât, flag it. Announcement posts get flagged eventually if theyâre really short answers. Theyâre just the first ones because it gets so much attention, and potentially so many flags. Discussion is being kept clean due to the same reason, it also gets quite a lot of attention. Even if a category doesnât get attention, it doesnât mean it wonât get unlisted appropriately.
Also, Iâve seen many announcement posts, feedback posts, etc. that go against the OPâs opinion, and they still stay if they are anything beyond âi donât like thisâ (which they should). There are more posts like that that stay than the âi like thisâ or âi donât like thisâ posts. So, the argumentâs kind of redundant.
last reply, so we donât clutter this too much;
Do the test yourself, write 2 replies, one being
âI really like this change, nice.â
and one being
âI really donât like this change :(â
even if you donât alright; regardless, have a nice day
@TheCarbyneUniverse doesnât want to get flagged. There is more anyone can add than just âomg epic update xDDDDâ or âlol this update sux revert x Dâ
Both of these are spam. They add nothing new to the topic. Negative opinions are fine to share so long as you explain constructively why you have that opinion. Otherwise it is useless feedback that nobody can use to improve things.
You should do another pass on the rules to make sure you understand why exactly posts are removed, because you seem to be making some rather rude and incorrect assumptions.
Roblox will not expose these controls. This is a discussion forum, and anything you post here is a resource to other readers, not just yourself. Topics must remain open for discussion so up to date information can be added as needed, and must remain visible so users with similar concerns or problems can be helped by the posts they find using search. If you have topics you want removed, you should flag them and use the something else option to explain why you want the post removed. However, for the same reasons as above, forum staff may not always comply.
Multiple times I have replied to topics within Scripting Support, which have been solved, to add another solution or extra information that can be essential for the OP to know.
I fear with a feature like this, those discussions wonât be viable no more as the OP would close their topic due to it being solved. Thatâs definitely not what a discussion forum should be like.
I think the closing topic thing would be useful, cause if you get your question gets answered, there is no needed for any more replies on that topic. Or you could have it once you mark a solution that topic automatically closes as your problem is solved.
Um new information that wasnât already provided? Which could be better than the current solution? Just because there is a solution doesnât mean itâs the end of the discussion.
It shouldnât do this. Doing this would imply the current solution is the best out of all the replies or whatever when that isnât always the case. It also prevents other users from adding new info like i said.
