Animation Editor Bug: Rotation Increments

Hello developers,

Today I’m here to report what I believe to be a bug in the animation editor. It seems like when you use an increment of 0 on rotation, the arm below swivels just fine. It works fine on some other numbers as well, one example being 20. But if you set it to 35 for example, you get the jittery result you see in the mp4 below. This makes using any increment other than 0 pretty unwieldy.

Another minor request, for whoever is in charge of the Animation Editor: Please make the Y key switch between global and local space again when using the animation editor. Being forced to press CTRL + L every time I wanna switch between references is a bit awkward, especially since I do it at least once every 5 seconds when doing an animation.

This is not a bug, more as this belongs in #platform-feedback:studio-features.

It’s not jittery, it’s intended to be like that.
It’s just like moving and rotating parts, people change it to make life easier.

For instance:

Moving a part 10 studs:
Choice 1: moving it with a 0.01 stud increment

or

Choice 2: moving with a 10 stud increment

All developers would probably chose the second option.

Try moving/resizing a brick with a 0.01 stud increment and a 10 stud increment, and you would find that it is also, “jittery”.

I do not think this is intended behavior. The studio tools move objects at the intended increments just fine, but at some increments in the animation editor, things get unreliable. Maybe the mp4 I posted above wasn’t as easy to discern as I’d hoped. Check these separate ones out.

Rotation Increment: 35

In this last one, the rotation jumps around at some other increment that is not 35. Maybe it jumps using 5 and 30 randomly, I’m not sure, but the behavior is jittery and unreliable. Pay close attention to how accurately each of these rotations stays aligned with where my mouse is.

Honestly I don’t see a problem about this, maybe you could offset your Rotation increasement by - 4~ -2 but I don’t see this as a problem

It’s a problem because it’s a bug. It’s frustrating to have to work around because I use rotation increments frequently when making new animations. I shouldn’t have to try random increments near the increment I really want to find one that works.

I said critical not because it’s critical but you still talk about this such small bug that have no problems towards real animator im sorry if i misunderstand you

I’m not a real animator? :joy:

The bug is a problem to deal with, that’s why I made this thread.

Well rest in peace you but mainly for us we don’t use grid because it make our animation look like a capsule but then again im sorry for this bug that effect you. I hopeRoblox staff will take care of this for you soon.

I won’t go too in depth on this because this is a bug report, not a conversation, though I would like to mention that Chad is reporting an issue specifically relating to rotations (with the animation editor), not moving or resizing. This comment is out of scope.

This does seem like a bug though, it definitely does not seem like it is intended behavior.

Yeah, I’m seeing some unintended behavior in the rotation increment: 35 video. Had to scrub it slowly to be sure. I’ll take a look at what’s going on
