Animation Editor Freezing

My Animation I just made won’t start. It’s not moving or anything it’s just frozen.

I’ve tried remaking it (such a pain), and changing it’s action to no avail.

Have you tried to restart studio? Can you move the parts in the editor? It might have something to do with the animation editor not being updated correctly with every new roblox update. It does have a lot of weird bugs that don’t have fixes. Try using moon animator plugin instead for now.

I can move the parts in the editor. Would switching to another animator mean I have to remake the animation, or can I just import it?

You can just import it into most good animation editors. Ones like moon animator are really high quality and have things like it. But sometimes, with weird configuration of the animation, or if it literally broken somehow, the animation might not import.

Alright, I’ll give it a try.

Thanks for replying

Things to check for a non-moving animation in Animation Editor:

  1. Is there a rig? The biggest problem I have found is the fbx file was not exported correctly from blender, and cannot possibly import correctly into Roblox. Try importing the fbx file into a new blender file. Make sure everything is there. The mesh must be parented (with deform) to the rig.
  2. Have you accidentally animated the part and not the rig? Or even more catastrophic, have you animated BOTH? If you have a rig, only animate the rig.
  3. Are your rig and parts named the same? This causes a naming violation while animating, and nothing happens.
  4. Is the mesh properly skinned to the rig? (ie Does it animate in blender?)

I have my money on “not properly exported” (#1) This is almost always my problem.

I’ve just started animating today, so I’m fairly uneducated on the topic.

  1. It does have a rig I’m pretty sure.
  2. I have no clue if I’ve animated the rig and/or part.
  3. maybe?
  4. It does animate in Blender.

Give it a try, import the fbx file back into blender. See if anything is messed up in the file.

Nothing seems messed up. What else should I do?

Ok, find the name of the bone in the rig that controls the left arm. The rig should be in the HumanoidRootPart. I’m assuming this is all correct or the Animation Editor would blow up.

Check that the name is different than the part it is moving. Which one is “left arm” which you are animating in the video?

Hi,
here is a Screenshot of the joints and a short video of the animation editor.

Left hand is highlighted*

It shows the coordinates moving but doesn’t physically move.

OK, this is what the rig would look like. Your model does not have a rig. It does appear to have 2 motor6D named left arm. This might be the issue, or it’s a configuration I have not run across before.

How do you have your armature setup in Blender?

Here’s the armature in Blender.

Is the mesh parented to the armature with deforms? (First select mesh, then armature, Ctrl-P)

And looks correct in your modifiers?

Blender is forgiving. FBX/Roblox is not.

There are no modifiers on the mesh so I don’t think it was parented.

That would cause the symptoms you are seeing (no rig, no movement). When you export, make sure you select both the mesh and the armature, and something should change (hopefully for the better!).

I’ve exported it with the armature each time I’ve exported it. What could be wrong?

You still have the naming issue. Parts are the same names as bones. When imported, the part becomes the bone and stuff breaks. Try giving them different names. (rename the meshes)

Only other thing I can think of is to check that you are uploading as a custom avatar. It’s kind of R6, with additional bones for the weapon. If it works correctly, the rig should be there.

There would be a few things you have to fix to make it an avatar (add humanoid, hrp, animator), but you should be able to test it in Animation Editor without those steps.

I’ve renamed all the meshes to be different and uploaded it as custom. I’m still not seeing any bones though.

OK, one last thing that occurred to me last night. How do you animate in blender? I am assuming you use “Pose,” but there are also shape keys (the latter does not work in Roblox).

Do you animate with a skinned mesh or by parenting to a bone? The rig might be disappearing if the editor cannot find anything to attach it to.

Skinned mesh method: All vertexes are weighted to bones. There is an armature modifier.

Parented to bone: No armature modifier, animation set in object properties.

My very first animation was the latter. It’s a horrible model, and I never used it for anything. I just tried to import it into roblox, and “Parented to bone” resulted in a model with empty meshes(?) and NO rig.

If I know your setup, I can try to reproduce it on my end.
