Animation editor shows "This rig contains multiple parts which share the same name" for parts which are not meant to be animated

Reproduction Steps

- Open the animation editor

  • Select a character which has parts that have the same name, but that cannot be animated (because they are using welds for instance)

Repro example with my character, which has two accessories, and so two parts named “Handle”, but that cannot be animated:

Expected Behavior

The character should be able to be selected and you should be able to make animations (behaviour before the bug started to happen).

Actual Behavior

You get the error “This rig contains multiple parts which share the same name. Please give unique names to all parts.”


Rename, or remove the parts. This workaround is very annoying when having characters with large amount of welded parts which have the same name.

Hi there! Thanks for your report, and sorry for the inconvenience.

We have recently made a change related to duplicate part names, and it would seem this caused the new bug you are seeing. The dates you report definitely match the timeline.

We have reverted the feature for now and will investigate more with the repro you provided, but in the meantime, your issue should be resolved. You will need to restart Studio, however.
