Announcing the Bug Report Wizard Beta

I am really happy to see that Roblox is putting effort into and focusing on creating important features like these instead of always focusing on a nice new update to the platform. I have mentioned multiple times before that I am concerned that Roblox seems to always be focusing on adding new features to Studio or the platform that often seem rushed buggy, and fundamentally in need of work. I am concerned that Roblox fundamentally has a lot of problems that keep coming up, and I have been disappointed to see that Roblox seems to have constantly ignored these fundamental problems for years by sometimes not talking about, releasing patch up or bandaid solutions, etc.

I think there are a lot of problems that have been holding Roblox back for years, and while I am generally happy to see Roblox adding cool new features to Roblox Studio and the platform, I feel like while there are fundamental problems with the platform, Roblox will continuously be held back by these problems in the long term.

I was extremely surprised to see that Roblox finally started fixing the catalog search. In my opinion, this has been a fundamental problem which has been around for years, and I can’t believe that it took until now to fix it. Regardless, I am glad that it is being fixed now.

I also think this update is a step in the right direction. It’s really nice to see that Roblox is putting their effort into creating features and systems that make sure that Roblox is running smoothly. Thank you.

Does this bug wizard only include platform bugs or does this include Roblox as a whole?

Also how am I still only “member” status

oopsies, i meant for them to post reports by themselves.

Since it appears that the wizard makes a topic right now, will that always be the case? There’s an advantage to having bug reports be publicly visible as well as being able to modify them if worst comes to worse.

I realize this might be a silly question (the answer is probably yes) but just in case I want to ask so that if it’s “no” I can complain, haha.

It’s a shame I’m not a regular, yet. Although, it is a really good idea as now we don’t have to spend more time going through support and waiting a long duration of time.

I’ve just used the Bug Report Wizard to create the following topic:

It went smoothly. I have two pieces of feedback:

  • Please add a draft system. I’m worried that if I close the tab all my progress will be erased. For the time being I’ve edited my text outside of the Developer Forum, just in case.

  • The previews do not accurately show what the final result will look like. Take the following table, for example.

If you saved during the first pop-up If you saved during the second pop-up Result
No No Does not save
No Yes Saves
Yes No Does not save
Yes Yes Saves

In the Wizard it looks like this:

Other than those two points, I think it’s concise and will help me create reports in the future. Thank you!

New topic creation is actually disabled right now rather than “down the line”. Was this an accident?

Which category are you seeing this on?

Nevermind! New topic creating is disabled in the “Bug Reports” category, of course it is and should be. My bad.

I guess the renaming of “Platform Feedback” to “Bug Reports” threw me off and made me think I was in one of the specific report categories.

This is great feedback, thanks!

It’s not very clear that this is the current method for TL1 to report bugs, and this process should either be changed to something more user-friendly, or be better highlighted/known. It took me months to learn that this was the case, months in which I’ve been unable to report a particular visual bug which still exists in the engine today.

Bug reporting should be about improving the platform and reporting issues affecting you and other developers, not hunting out rewards - it’s a reward for a reason, not a handout. These items are given out for higher-level issue reporting and resolution, not standard daily issues from the DevForum.

That being said; Red Banded Top Hat is typically not handed out through DevForum reports (if at all) and rather for important helpfulness towards staff in other manners. Monetary rewards are given through completing bounties in the HackerOne program. Boss white hats are indeed for vulnerability reports, but DevEngagement can’t handle how those are handed out (AFAIK, I’m not DE).

You should be more focused on platform improvements.

This is a great idea! It makes the devforum much cleaner than it looks.

You mean if I do this your staff will stop hiding my bug reports… Cause this is why I don’t report bugs I find anymore. Staff keeps saying they aren’t filed right so I give up.

It’s great that Roblox has made much-needed changes to their broken and/or unintuitive systems over the past few weeks, even though I won’t be able to use the wizard. I’m hoping that Roblox continues to address these outstanding issues in the future. Good feature.

This is very cool and i think it will potentially and hopefully streamline the bug reporting process also it’ll prevent those who unfortunately might be discouraged to create a bug report in the form of a topic maybe thinking its not truly a bug. So its nice to see that a hierarchy of bugs is being more rigidly adapted which will probably make bug detection AND resolution faster in the long run.

Bug:

On the discourse app and a web browser on mobile, the icon is not symmetrical

Device: iPhone SE 2020 edition
OS: iOS 14.3

When will “Members” be able to rank up to “Regular”? A few months ago, I asked a staff member about this and they said you guys are working on it. I have all the requirements to rank up to Regular…

It will be when this comes out of beta, it’s currently regular only (I assume since it’s beta)

You don’t. When this is available to members, I’m sure they will either remove TL2 or make it so you have to pass through without getting flagged several times.

You have 10 hours read time only, you need a day I’m pretty sure at least, and you haven’t gone through post approval once.

They are, I’d say in a month or so this will be out of beta.

I don’t want to be to negative, but how are you so certain of this? Have they announced this?
