Anonymous Chat allowed?

  1. What do you want to achieve? Keep it simple and clear!
Are you allowed to create an anonymous chat? As in, each player chats with an anonymous name (like “Anonymous Tiger”)

  2. What is the issue? Include enough details if possible!
This would prevent players from accurately reporting others so I’m not sure if it’s allowed

  3. What solutions have you thought of so far?
    Creating your own report system?

Sorry if this has already been answered; I couldn’t find anything.

I’m pretty sure it is! Maybe the TOS says different, so if you are still not sure maybe give it a quick look.

I believe that Flicker uses this to hide the real identity of players in-game. If so, this may be allowed. Might wanna check the TOS as @ColdFoxy07 said.

If you have been playing games like Mad Games, where you get “Fake” names, you also chat as that fake name.
Your real name isn’t always revealed, but most games do reveal who was who at the end of each round.

So using “fake” or nicknames are allowed on Roblox.
But if ToS says anything about revealing it after the rounds, idk.

Though I’m not 100% sure, if you did, you’d still have to allow the users to be able to report the other user (to roblox directly via a report button). And probably you’ll want to keep full logs with a unique id (think when 2 users connect, their lobby is assigned an id and all messages are logged) to each chat so users can report entire chats to your moderation team so you can also forward details to roblox. Honestly though… I have to ask why you would want to. Roblox is a game filled with kids, doing this just makes it easy for creeps to talk with kids… Not worth any potential upsides imo…

Total Drama Island does this, I imagine that roblox would allow you to do so.

Yeah. I would say it is. In fact I would say that so long as you are not collecting chat information about what the players are saying then it should be fine.

Answer

Yes, you are technically allowed to create an anonymous chat system… as long as it’s filtered; you’re fine to do this.

When Roblox comes back up, I will test this theory… however;
I’m pretty sure you could rename the Players Name inside of the Players Instance and that should then change the name in the player-list and make it easy to report them to Roblox.

I don’t recommend making your own report system, unless you have a way of sending that report to Roblox, else; go ahead.

Note

I don’t think such a system would be a good idea, I understand the reason why you’d want to make an anonymous chat system/feature… however; when the person you’re talking too is anonymous, they have no consequences. No face or name to link to them. I’ll use the example of the infamous; Jack the Ripper. Although we believe we have an idea of who they were, they were able to get away with crimes because they had no true face… just a mask.

I hope this helps!
