Hello, so a friend and I are making an obby game and we’re trying to decide what should our lobby look like? If you have any ideas, please comment down below and we’ll use the best one. Thanks!
What i would suggest would be: a practice obby, possibly a obby towards the leaderboards.
With the genre obby you can do whatever you want honestly. You can make something floating islands, wild west etc. Depending on what type of obby game you are making. If there is one theme in the obbies i would recommend putting parts of that theme in the lobby. Things i would recommend you to keep in mind are:
- A small design
- Low part count
- Essentials nearby (e.g; leaderboards / practice obby)
As i said before you can really make anything within the genre obby. As long as it has something to do with obbies it is alright. For more inspiration you might want to check out some other obby games such as; Obby King Remastered and Obby Royale.
Good luck with the lobby, and remember be original.
We’re doing a battle royale type of obby game. If this kinda helps.
I would recommend checking out Obby King Remastered in this case. This game is also a more of a knockout game. As you will see in this game it doesnt have to be anything action / battle related. As long as there are essentials you should be alright.
Would you recommend a tutorial in the game?
Yes. Tutorials prevent players from quitting due to not knowing what they can do in game.
For a tutorial you have 3 options
-
1: A GUI that pops up when you join the game for the first time. When you click it you get a text explanation of what the game is about and what the objective is.
-
2: A GUI that pops up asking you if you want to do a tutorial if yes you get teleported to a extra place in the game with all the essentials where you will encounter basic obstacles you will find in game. Then once you finish them all you will be brought back to the game.
-
3: You use a Portal / A small area in the lobby where you can practice and there you will encounter signs telling you what some things are (e.g; this is a wall wrap, you have to jump around it) then when you are on the top you get coins for completing the obby and there you will also encounter a sign saying that this was all you can encounter in the game.
You can do everything you want with the tutorial really but those 3 are the most practical ones.
Conclusion: Yes i do recommend a tutorial it will make your playtime longer + people will be better informed of what to do in the game.
