Any tips for making good combat animations?

I’ve been working on a combat system for my game and whenever I make attacking animations they simply feel bland. Does anyone have any good advice to make good combat animations? What type of step-by-step process would you use to make an attacking animation. What advice do you think can help me improve?

Any help is appreciated!

I don’t really reply usually but I think this youtube video might help: 12 Principles of Animation (Official Full Series) - YouTube

I, too, am working on combat animations, though I don’t really have any tips. I think the second principle in the video will help well. For a punch, try posing some kind of windup before the punch to give it more power.
