Any tips on making high quality thumbnails?

So being a solo developer, i alone do most of the stuff in my games. In the span of years I got pretty good at animating, modeling, building, scripting and many other necessary skills.

Even tho I have made more or less good looking thumbnails previously, they weren’t exactly high end. In my new game I approach everything professionally, and now that it’s almost ready, I want the thumbnail to look Insanely good.

Where can I learn making very high quality thumbnails and icons?

Any tutorials in Youtube or elsewhere, as well as personal tips from your experience will be appreciated. Don’t advice me to hire someone, I obviously am aware of such possibility, but I want to do it myself.

I have made a video showing how to make a Roblox GFX for YouTube videos and Roblox games. It is quite long but take your time and try to watch it or other videos on YouTube.

Here are the things that I recommend doing first before doing high-end thumbnails/icons:

  • Try your best to do practice thumbnails/icons daily. (Don’t do the same thing every day, try to do something different each time)
  • Watch some artists on YouTube who do speed-art videos. Watching Benny Productions is the best way to learn
  • When you are doing renders, try to include varieties of background objects to give the image more depth, a little bit of camera rotation could make it look good as well
  • Adding depth of field to image is pretty crucial if you want your thumbnails/icons to look high quality.

Don’t be hopeless about making a good-looking artwork, you should take your time and try to brainstorm on how you can improve. I hope you have a good experience trying to improve your art skills and have a high-quality artwork for your game! I hope this somewhat helps you and hope you have a successful game!

Thank you ^ _ ^. Your end result in the video is quite good, and I will definitely watch it today (Its not that long really, Ive watched dozens of 7-11 hour long tutorials)

That’s good to hear! If you can put enough time into working on your art skill, you could end up making something like these:

Nice work man, you dont only have the skill, but also the creativity, as each of these looks unique in it’s own way. For exmaple on the last one im not totally sure what’s going on xD, which is definitely a lot better than generic thumbnails
