Earlier today I wanted to boot up roblox on my steam deck and mess around in a few games while laying down, and I remember a few months ago the last time I wanted to play roblox on the steam deck it worked fine, but for some reason i cant find anything online about how to get it done and it keeps saying wine is not supported. Is there anything i can do to play roblox on my steam deck or am i forced to dual boot with windows
You can run Roblox through a Windows virtual machine but it requires GPU passthrough, which requires a dedicated GPU.
Unfortunately you can’t, Roblox has blocked Wine and VMs from running. There does exist programs like Grapejuice and Vinegar which made the process of using Roblox on Linux easier but they relied on Wine to run it. However you can still use those programs I listed to run Roblox Studio which I use on my laptop which runs linux.
Edit: Actually on second thought, do you have any chance on getting Waydroid running on your Steam Deck? It’s an android comparability layer that could be used to run the Roblox Android client, but I’m not sure if Steam Deck supports that since it requires Wayland.
Wine is blocked, however Roblox can still be run on a Windows VM if GPU passthrough is utilized properly. Roblox Studio is unaffected by the block of Wine, and can be run on Linux.
Wait it’s not blocked? Also isn’t this process like a bit expensive? I heard that you need a spare GPU to run.
It is blocked on VMs normally, but on VMs with GPU passthrough enabled, the Roblox client does not detect that it is running under a hypervisor. You do not need a spare GPU to enable GPU passthrough, one dedicated GPU is enough for most GPU passthrough techniques. You cannot enable GPU passthrough on host machines without a dedicated GPU, however.
I did not know that! Although I still feel that using Waydroid would be better since it’s more native.
I do not have waydroid not sure what that is lol. So youre basically saying the only way to get it running is basically just dual booting windows?
Waydroid is an Android emulator. that requires Wayland. Wayland should be able to work properly on the Steam Deck as its default desktop environment is KDE Plasma, which can be run under Wayland.
Can confirm, I have managed to do waydroid on my deck in the past. It’s really easy to setup, there are tutorials you can follow online.
