Anyway I can improve this post-apocalyptic build? [2]

Thank you for all the feedback on my last post. I added in a lot of what everyone suggested.

In the above picture, anything I should add/change to make it appear more apocalyptic/improves?

P.S Lighting in this picture is a lot brighter than it would appear in-game as well.

Get some definition in the sky. That is the glaring thing to me. Looks like a graphical glitch when it is a single solid color in such a detailed and gritty environment.

Agreed with VitalWinter. I think you could also consider adding more background elements to fill the empty horizon toward the left. It looks pretty blank otherwise since everything that catches the eye is on the right side of the image. The road path to the left is almost invisible at first glance, besides the car and roadblocks

The problem with that is the fog. Iā€™ve tried and experimented with numerous skyboxes and adding in fog especially at a close distance but it doesnā€™t contrast/appear well with the skybox. Any ideas?

I will be adding more background elements, including a building on the left of the road. Thanks for the feedback.

I updated the map with a skybox and made a lot of lighting changes to make the fog blend in well. I will fill the rest of that part of the map in the screenshot tomorrow.

It looks amazing in game. Itā€™s a little dark, but that also adds to the very desolate atmosphere.

First thing I did was walk into an invisible wall. Maybe make some kind of barrier to help the user not get detached from the experience by hitting invisible things.

What are your plans for the game?

Edit: Also just noticed that the ā€œPOPEYESā€ sign has neon parts, on an old rundown building.
Edit2: I found some shipping containers that had a really odd shine to them. Iā€™d suggest changing the material. Possibly fabic for little to no shine.

Thanks for all the great feedback, I do have to remove a few neon signs. They made sense before with the lore I was going with but since Iā€™ve changed the game drastically over the past few weeks they do need to be removed.

Sorry about the invisible wall  Iā€™ve been trying to find some clever ways to make the invisible walls ā€˜makes sense.ā€™ You can see the collapsed overpass in the above pic trying to do just that, making the road impassable so an invisible wall ā€˜makes sense.ā€™

My plans are to finish the map, at least twice the size it is now. After that, add in the first game mode which will be some sort of roleplay/exploration game mode similar to After the Flash.

After that add in a few more game modes such as PVP combat (Apocalypse Rising type) and a story mode as well as expanding the map

sorry for the long reply

Iā€™m not too experienced with lighting and creating atmosphere in my games, but here it might be a little too dark in places to the point it makes things like some of buildings intelligible- taking away all the effort you put in making them.

Also, to create more interesting architecture for the construction site Iā€™d add more of a grid pattern for the iron beams thatā€™s common in construction instead of just the perimeter of beams. Add some scaffolding as well in a decrepit state to just add more to the site. (Also, not to nit pick, but thereā€™s heavy z-clipping in the iron beams currently, so Iā€™d probably fix)

Iā€™d probably remove the ā€œPOPEYESā€ sign from the game since copyright also.

How long after the apocalypse is this established for?
I am asking as the cars do seem to be in quite good condition, apart from the occasional bend
You might want to do some research on how quickly/slowly rust forms and perhaps rust them up a bit.

At the moment it looks great. I think you may want to add some more buildings maybe near it, like small houses? But all in all looks nice.

Thanks for the feedback. It is too dark in some places, Iā€™m working on finding the perfect balance between brightness, fog and the contrast with the skybox.

I will be adding scaffolding and fix the z-clipping, thanks for pointing that out.

I may not be adding any more houses. Thereā€™s already a large suburb that caused the game to begin to lag. Thanks for your feedback though

Thank you for your feedback. Iā€™ll be working on that in the coming weeks once I complete more of the map to focus on more of the things like rust, moss etc.

What I would personally suggest is to create a bit more ā€œbrokenā€ objects, as it seems like everything here look in good condition. Maybe add some broken metal pillars, or how about some water puddles?
Anyways, it seems really good so far. I wish you luck with your development!

Thanks, there are some broken objects but just not in this picture.

The build looks amazing! :grinning: I would maybe like to see some custom writings in blood, too make it seem more like an apocalypse. Also, maybe add some vehicles or trees on fire to add a bit more realism. But anyways, this is awesome better then what I can do keep up the good work!
